  • Starting the adventure!!

    Hey all,

I've been lurking for a month or two but I feel like I can finally join you all. My boyfriend starts school at Case Western next week. Although I'm scared of 4 years of school plus many years of residency, I'm going to try and take it one day at a time so I'm excited that the journey has begun.

We moved him in this weekend and hilarity promptly ensued: 2 days, 4 trips to the furniture store, 2 uhaul disasters and we finally got him a bed and finished getting everything set up. We'll be doing the long distance thing from Boston to Cleveland for the first few months (we both worked in Boston before he was accepted) but hopefully I'll join him soon.

Thanks for all the support so far (I've read a lot of helpful things in my month of lurking!) and I can't wait to get to know you all better.

Lots of new Cleveland folks this year. I'm a Cleveland born and raised, but relocated to Kansas City for my dh's job 2 years ago. If you need any info on the area, let me know.

            Welcome!

Hi, Elisabeth, and welcome to Cleveland!

We should have a mattress on Thursday, we're told....we also spent all weekend running around like idiots to various stores to get stuff we need. There's nothing like spending like a drunken sailor right when the joint income just went DOWN. *sigh* We realized today we have no idea how many times we've been to various Targets in the area in the last 3 days. We just know it's too many.

                Maybe we'll see you around!

I was at the one on Cedar and Warrensville on opening day. I swear, it was one of the happiest days of my life. Tell them I said hi. I'm sure their sales went down when I left.

I know what you mean about Target and furniture stores, is it possible to NOT spend hundreds of dollars? Also, wasn't one of the selling points about Cleveland the cost of living?

Although I do have to admit it was beautiful this weekend and anything is cheaper than Boston.

HA! Yeah, we were at that one at least 3 times, and there are a few more things we still need to get there in the next few days. TWO FLOORS! I was amazed. And we've had fun with the cart escalator; never seen one of those before.

Tom's getting tired of hearing me whine about missing Fred Meyer, though (those who've lived in the PNW, you know what I mean). I've never lived more than 3 miles from a Freddy's. Target's...close, but not quite the same. The difficulty of trying to find things in a new town is compounded by all the freaking construction. Holy crap, trying to drive on Mayfield east of here is a nightmare...and of course THAT is where *all* of the mattress stores are. And Linens and Things. Wow, getting out of *that* parking lot's an adventure. We're slowly (with the help of friendly sales staff and my GPS) finding ways around the worst of it, thankfully.

Welcome to Cleveland! We're newcomers here, too. Been here 2 1/2 weeks now. GREAT weather so far - but I keep hearing about winters here...

I'm in the Target frequent shoppers club, too. In fact, all three of us (you, me, and Sandy) probably passed each other in Target at some point. BTW - did you all go in TJ Maxx and More? That is a great store! DH told me all the nurses at the clinic rave about it, too.

If you haven't been yet, go to Whole Foods across the street from Target.

I love that thing. But Target will never be Freddy's. I'd forgotten how cool they are until I went to the big new Fred Meyer by my Mom's place a couple of months ago when I was visiting and was blown away. I WANT I WANT!! LOL.

It's open??!! They were just clearing the lot when we left Cleveland, so my first Whole Foods experience was here in Phoenix.
