Hello from a fellow ophtho spouse. I'm sorry about the match. My Dh did not do a fellowship, so I have no btdt advice on that topic.

Dh is now in private practice and it's niiiiice. Fellowship or not, you're almost there!!!!

        Re: Hello!

Jane Doe: It seems we have more than Ophtho in common. My eldest DS was born Feb 25, 2004 and youngest was born October 2, 2006. Our kids are very close in age!

DH is considering ditching Retina and looking for a general Ophtho practice to join. He's wanted to do Retina for so long that it's hard for him to let go of it. I think I could convince him, but I don't want to do that. I want it to be his decision. It's sooooo tempting to just be done with it and get started with life as practicing doc!

He's started to make jokes about the whole thing, so I can tell he's coming out of his funk.

Did you go to AAO this year?

          Re: Hello!

So the scramble has been interesting today. It's the same and different from Residency scramble. The same because you still contact the programs directly, different becasue there are so few to work with. DH has an interview in Phoenix on Friday. Anybody from Phoenix?

Best luck with the Scramble. We have a few scramble survivors here. Please let us know how it works out!

                  Re: Hello!

Phoenix didn't work out. There were three applicants, they took one of the other guys. He's on to interview at Ohio State on Jan 3 and Duke on Jan 4. The stress levels in our house are unbelievable! We both felt very un-merry this Christmas.

Thanks for all your well wishes!

I will keep you in my thoughts. Best of luck, the scramble can cut to the quick of even the best relationship. Just keep trying and know that it will all work out the way that it is supposed to. Best of luck. Keep us posted.

                          Belated welcome!

I am/was a teacher too and a mom to twin boys born Feb. 13, 2004! What did you teach? I taught 2nd grade for 6 years.

I'll be sending you good vibes for the new year...

                          Again, welcome.

                            Re: Hello!

Entropy: I taught a little bit of everything in Elementary, but mostly 4th grade. After I taught for a few years I worked as a consultant for an Educational Technology company called Lightspan. After eldest DS was born, I decided to stay at home. Well, I had decided to do that before he was even conceived. We had been married for 10 years before we had kids. We were waiting for DH to get to the end of school before any kids came along so that I could stay home with them.

Do you miss teaching? Honestly, I don't. Maybe it's because I had a taste of the business world before I stopped working but I don't think I'll ever go back to teaching. I kept my license active for as long as I could without doing anything extra and then it expired. I was not sad. I want to be the PTA/classroom helper mom once the kids are in school.

                            Thanks for the welcome!

Well, nothing is official, yet. But, it looks like he may have gotten a spot. It's for a one year medical retina instead of surgical. We'll do that year and then go through the match again for a surgical spot.

We'll know for sure on Monday.
