I just happened upon this site, and am so amazed at the level of support here! I am a newlywed, been married for eight months, and my husband is a third year medical student. I am a year behind him, enrolled in the same medical program. Although I'm in med school too, he's really thinking about going into surgery, so I'm trying to figure out how to be the best at supporting him/being a doctor too/raising a family/etc. It seems nearly impossible! Anyway, I'm just happy to see that other people know what it's like!

Re: Hi everyone from Mississippi!
Welcome! I knew a peds wife/surgeon husband combo and she too felt that even though she was a doctor, she needed a support group. I hope that you find what you are looking for here.

Re: Hi everyone from Mississippi!
Welcome It can be done, to have a relationship, career, family in medicine - just demands a lot of open conversations and constant balancing. A good friend of mine dated her DH in medschool. They couples matched for residency, her peds, him IM. She got pg her chief year. They moved for his cardio fellowship, where she worked pt at a local hospital in the ED, had to drive to all their locations as a filler, had a second baby right after the fellowship ended, was able to to maintain the balance she was looking for. She seemed pretty happy, and now is working pt in a peds office.
Hope we get to know you better here

Re: Hi everyone from Mississippi!
thanks color_me_sulky! I'm hoping to find that balance too. It's very inspiring to hear that women have done it before. DH is thinking he wants to do surgery, so I'll probably be looking for part-time work. He's like follow your passion! But we want kiddos, so something's gotta give.
