Hi to the Medical Spouse Group Members:

My dh is in his final year of residency(General Preventive
Medicine)and we married when he was a Naval physician. We reside in
Wellington, Florida (suburb of West Palm Beach) and we are from
    Texas.

After residency is completed next summer, my dh is planning to go into
private practice. If you are in private practice or if you know of
other doctors who are, will you please share your experiences with me?

I am looking forward to communicating with you and others in the
    group.

    Sincerely,

    Tonya

Welcome, Tonya! I lived in Dallas for over 25 years so we have something in common. My family still lives in Plano. We're in Utah right now while my husband finishes his Peds residency. His family is from Florida (Clearwater area) Anyway, again, welcome aboard!

      Welcome Tonya-

I'm no help to you- my husband owes the Army the rest of our adult lives- but there are lots of people here who can!

      Glad you found us!

Welcome Tonya. Russ and I are from Boynton Beach. I know Wellington...at least the new mall anyway!

I know nothing about private practice. I hope someone on this board might. If it's anything like veterinary medicine, there's individual owned private practice and group owned (like Banfield). The group owned ones offer lots of benefits and continuing education options, but the private ones sometimes feel more like a family and sometimes have better mentorship. If it's nothing like vet med then I can't help you. Sorry.

But welcome to the boards anyway!

          Hi Tonya,

Welcome aboard! My boyfriend is a first-year med student, and a Naval reservist. Sorry for my cluelessness, but how does your deal with the Navy work? I thought if you were a military doc you always owed them time after your residency. What route did he take to become a Naval physician?

Looking forward to getting to know you,

              Welcome Tonya!

Like Jenn, I'm a loooong way from being able to converse intelligently about post training options. Nonetheless, I'm sure that you will find others who can provide lots of insight on this topic. Congrats for being so close to the end!

                Reply to Welcome

Hi and thank you all for the warm welcome to the group. I apologize for the delay, but I have been away on business for the last few weeks.

Thank you all for your input on how to start a private practice, my dh and I are still weighing our options.

Julie, my dh was a General Medical Officer in the Navy and he chose to complete his residency in General Preventive Medicine.

I look forward to communicating with you all in the future.

                Happy Thanksgiving!
