  • Hi! I'm New!

    Hi everyone!
I've been lurking for a while, and decided to join now that I'm officially a medical spouse. We were married this past June, just before DH started anesthesiology residency in July.
We're both in our 30s, so we're getting a lot of pressure from our families to get started having babies. To be honest, I'm feeling a bit worried that we're going to end up waiting too long. But we need my salary to survive and mat leave would be too much of a pay cut.
Anyway, I'm really looking for the support & humor of these boards to help when times get rough.

        Re: Hi! I'm New!

        Hi!

I'm another gas-spouse! DH just started residency this year, too. We're 27, and we've been getting the "when are you going to give me grandkids" guilt trip for years! It's DH's parents mainly, though, so they understand it's his fault we're waiting. Our plan has been to pay off our credit cards (finally finished!), then save most of his salary since we were already used to only living on mine + loans during medical school. I definitely want to stay at home with our kid(s?), at least until they start school.

Congratulations on your marriage! Don't let anyone rush you into anything. You have plenty of time (30's are NOT old!), and I strongly recommend being married for at least a year or two before bringing a baby into it. Being a DINK (dual-income, no kids) family can be a lot of fun! TBH, I'm a little scared about doing it after eight years! aranoid:

              Thanks everyone!
I just told DH that I'm now officially a "gas spouse" and he thinks it's hilarious!
Glad to hear others are feeling parent pressure too. Thirty (well, 32, but shhh!) sounds a lot older than it feels!
              Thanks for the warm welcome!!

                    Welcome welcome!

We're in the middle of interviewing to switch to gas, get married, and possibly move.
As far as children go: parents will say what they want, unfortunately. Sometimes, it is easy to feel the pressure (he's 30, I'm 25) but don't cave until you know what you want. It sounds like you've created a plan of sorts (good for you!) and that helps so much.

I'd like to have my first by 28, honestly -- I'm more concerned about his future fertility than my own.

                    Keep us updated!
