  • So happy Im not alone in all of this!

I have been looking at this site for a while and have finally gotten up the nerve to post. I am happy to see I am not alone in all of this. My name is Candice and my husband is a 2nd year Resident. We have 2 kids 6, 1 and one on the way in May. We moved from Las Vegas and it has been quite an adjustment. So far things have been fairly easy compared to some of the stories I have read. My husband is home everynight and takes call from home. Although, they are some really late nights. I am a stay at home mother and I am having a hard time getting used to that. I am used to working at the Hospital with my DH. But, I am very happy to be home for my children.

Anyway, I am glad to have found you all and look forward to getting to know you. I am so happy I am not the only one who has to deal with being a medical spouse. I get really tired of trying to talk about it with people who think I shouldnt have feelings about it because he is a Dr. Like he's not a real person like everyone else in the world.

    Thanks for listening!

Welcome, Candice! You are definitely not alone in all of this! I am so happy I found this website...it just is so comforting knowing so many other people are going through the same things, and that I'm not crazy--(at least not completely! )

I'm Marla--my husband is a cardio fellow. We are here in VA, just moved less than a year ago from Chicago (a big change). I'm a nurse--you mentioned you used to work in the hospital--are you a nurse?

Well, take care, and welcome again. Have a great weekend.

      Nice to meet you!

I wish I could be so bold as to be a RN, but my work is better done in the clerical world. I ran the front desk in the radiology department until about 2 years ago when I had my second son. My husband was a med student there when we met and we seen a lot of each other then...(ah the good ol days!)...

But for now my job is keeping our family together and raising kids. I just hope I can keep my sanity while I do it! :P

Thanks for your reply! It nice to be among my people! lol

Hi Candice--I'm a work-at-home mom (SAHM at heart, though) to two kids and wife of a pulmonology fellow. I definitely know what you mean about others not feeling you are justified complaining about their schedules. I don't think others can really understand it without living it and knowing what it is like to have them never around for sometimes weeks (or months!) at a time.
        Anyhow, welcome to the boards!

          Candice,

Welcome, I hope that you find that you are not alone here! What specialty is your dh in? Home call sounds decent!

Best of luck with the little one on the way...that has to be a little weird...living with kids in Vegas? I'm sure that there are suburbs and all but it is hard to conceptualize.

          Glad to meet you!

            Hi Candice!

Welcome! Glad you're here. I'm sure I'll be able to learn much from your experiences. My bf is a first-year med student. I've been learning a lot along the way (it's only been one semester) and it's definitely ups and downs for me. I work full time as a website content manager.

I definitely agree that people tend to over simplify the medical relationship and insert too many stereotypes. We all know the truth though!

Look forward to hearing from you-
            Sharon

I guess I didnt say that my husband is a family practice resident. So we only have 1 year left after this one before he is on his own. (kinda scary).

It was not really bad living in Vegas but, I didnt let my 6 year old play outside unless I was right there. We live outside of Kingman, Az now and the nearest neighbor is 1 mile away so I send my kids outside and just watch from the windows now. I feel so much better letting my boys be boys out here.

My husband is the only resident here right now as this is a new program, so I dont have the opportunity to meet other spouses. This is definetly a breath of fresh air find you all!
