I've been Lurking for about a month, and thought it was time for me to introduce myself. I feel like I know some of you already.
My husband of 5 years just decided (4 months ago) that he wanted to make a career change. He was a Manager of an IT Team. He quite his job 2 weeks ago and now he's a post-bac student studying BioChem with aspirations of Med School. He's been going full-time for 2 weeks, and he's exhausted and excited. His brain is filled with all kinds of new information. I'm also excited for this journey.
We're pretty old to make this kind of change. I'm 33 and he's 29, but we figured that he could be unhappy for 12-15 years and still be in the same job, or we could be "engaged" for 12-15 years and he'll be in a job that he (hopefully) will love.
We know that this path will take a lot of work, but together, we think we can do it.
We don't have any kids. We've been trying for about 4 years, with no luck. This has been particularly painful for me. However, we are religious folk and believe that it's all part of God's plan for us. After all, if we had kids now, my DH would never had made the decision to quit his (well-paying) job and go back to school.
I work as a Software Analyst with a moderate salary. We're going to sell our house in the Spring. We need to be closer to the University, and paying the mortgage on just my salary will be a stretch.
Anyway, it's good to see that there is a support system out there. While I don't "technically" qualify as a Medical Spouse, that is where we're headed.
