  • Hi Im New

Hi Im new to this site and reading from all of you we all seem to be in the same boat together. My husband is a first year resident in Rochester, MN. We moved here last April and am sad to say that I am still adjusting. I never realized how close we really were to our families. We have two kids a boy and a girl both under the age of three. I've been looking for a site like this for support. We have spouses groups here but I just cant seem to get into the swing of things with them. It is Jan and pretty cold here. My husband is seldomly home and and I dont know many people here. The kids and I have cabin fever yet there isnt anything to do in this town. I'd love to hear advice from anyone out there that is experiencing some of the same things as myself!

    Hi Maria and welcome!

This is a great place to come for support. It sounds like you are still getting adjusted to your situation...it will get better as you get more settled. I'm sure your children are a great source of joy. I've heard there are underground playgrounds in Minn. -- maybe you can check out one of those? There are a bunch of people here who live in Minn. Post in some of the other sections as well. I'm married to a third year medicine resident who is starting ID fellowship in July. What specialty is your husband?

I look forward to getting to know you better!

      Hi Jill,

Thanks for your reply! My husband is a first yr neuro resident at Mayo Clinic. Thank God for this site, I was beginning to feel isolated. Unfortunatly there are not underground parks here, none that I've found anyway.

        Hi Maria,

Greetings from down the road in Saint Paul. Minnesota isn't for the faint hearted, is it? The bad news is the mildest of three winters that we have had so far since moving here from Southern Ohio.

The best thing about intern year--it comes to an end and you will be stronger for it. It really does take some time to settle into a place, but this will come to.

I look forward to meeting you below, "neighbor".

          Hi Maria!
          Welcome to the boards!
It is hard to be stuck in the house with two little ones--they get a little nutty when they haven't been out in a few days (don't we all!).
Anyhow, it should get better next year, that intern year can be grueling.
You should be able to find lots of support here!
          Awake is the new sleep!

We were considering mayo...the housing prices were a definite plus.
I hear you about cabin fever - the past week hasn't seen temperatures over 20 degrees, and I'm reluctant to take the baby out in the cold.
Eventually I just bundle her up and get out.
Just remember that residency is finite.
