  • Hi!

I am not really a medical spouse since my husband is still working on his undergrad. However, since he tells me other med students experiences, I was wondering if you could tell me all your experiences while your spouse was going through med school. It would be nice to see things from the other side

    Thank you!!!!

    Welcome!

It's great that you found this site so early in the training process - we're glad you're here!

You can find a lot of people's experiences in the Blogs section of this site. (But I'm not sure if they're available until you've made at least 50 posts for "friended" the author.) There are some good threads in the regular forums as well - I'd start with the Grand Rounds section.

Tell us a little about yourself! What part of the country are you from? Are you in school now, too? What do you want to do? When does your husband apply to medical school?

        Hi and Welcome.

There are lots of members who are spouses/SOs to med students. As for us, it is a vague yet blissful memory of lovely once a month visits with my hottie Army boyfriend.

Not that nine years later, the grouchy Army guy cursing on the computer in the other room whilst working on a speech to 300 neurologists isn't worth it.....

Thank you Ladies for the support and nice welcome!!!!

Well were from South Florida. He will be applying to Med Schools in Late 2010 early 2011 (still long way to go) but I remember when he was just starting so it's progress LOL! He is sort of a non traditional student since he would be 27 when he applies for Med School but he's traveled a long way to get here and be able to study. As for me, I have taken a break from school and will start going again this fall. I will be going for my B.A. in Accounting.

As for Med Schools we would love to stay in Florida but since we shouldn't count on that he is also looking into Texas and Georgia so far.

We have been together since 2006 and we're married February 2009. I look forward to getting to know everyone.

My DH is also a non-traditional med student. Honestly, I think being a bit more mature has benefited him because he is able to better balance everything and keep his head about him.

Just went back to my thread he would be applying September of 2010. Is it weird to be excited about entering this journey with him? I guess since I know this is what he really wants and loves I can't wait to see him happy.

Not weird at all! Mixed in with the bad things that you hear us talk about, there are a lot of really cool things that you'll experience with your husband. And it has really brought us closer together and made our marriage a lot stronger if you look at the big picture of where we were before he started medical school. (Granted, there are definitely times when it is much more difficult than our friends' marriages, but as we work through them, we're better off.)

                              Nice to *meet* you!

I know there are some less than pleasant things that occur in medicine, but I think it's important to look at it as an adventure which you look forward to and greet with anticipation. A positive attitude works wonders, I've found.
