Ahhh...flying with a one year old to sxm

Hello again everyone! Welcome to all new members! I need some help ladies/gentlemen... I have a dilemma, ok maybe that is a strong word. However, I am going to be flying to SXM in October to be with me husband! I am a first time flyer and I will be flying with a one year old. I just need some tips! (Unless anyone wants to fly their personal plane up here to get us LOL) Thanks for any help! ~B

I've made that trip oh so many times! Can you tell me what airline your flying or what your stop over's are? I can give you more detail specific travel tips if I knew the stop over city/cities.

I've flow lots of times with a little one. If you are changing planes, that will be your biggest challenge. There are some threads on here already about this. Let me see if I can find some of them.

I am pretty sure we will be flying out of DFW and the two different lay-overs will be Miami or Puerto Rico. I will know more soon. Thanks!

That's too funny! I am from the Ft. Worth area and always took flights out of DFW to SXM.

Here's the low down. If you take american airlines you'll stop once in Miami then on to SXM. The lay over in Miami from DFW used to be 33 minutes. I think they have made it longer so that you don't miss your flight. The american air workers in Miami are the rudest workers of all the airports I've ever been to. Just my opinion. Don't expect a smiling face there.

Or you could fly directly to San Juan and then take the quick flight over to SXM. Since you will likely be taking a good amount of luggage, be aware of flying through the San Juan airport. Most flights (but not all) put you on an american eagle flight from San Juan to SXM. If this happens you might not show up in SXM with all your luggage. American might put your bags on the next flight to SXM (that day or the next day). One way of preventing this from happening is to book a flight from San Jaun on one of the bigger planes, not a little american eagle flight. Tip #2 re. San Juan to SXM: If you are stuck with american eagle find out if you can book yourself a jet and not the propeller plane. The propeller planes out of San Jaun to SXM are so bumpy, loud, and the vibration will almost make anyone sick. Every time I took the propeller flight to San Juan the kids would get very sick to their stomachs and/or cry the whole time. It's a sucky flight, even I wanted to cry!

If you fly (my preferred option even tho I really like American Airlines) USAirways out of DFW your stop over will be Charlotte, NC. It's the best option. The CLT airport is nicer, cleaner, better food, plenty of time to get your next flight, and no worries about being stuck on a express jet to the island. When you fly back home through US Customs CLT is TONS better over MIA any day of the year! You and your baby will be more comfortable on USAirways flight.

But like I said, if you are stuck with flying through San Juan don't worry too much! You'll get there! When you land in SXM be ready to get home and REST. It's hot this time of year on the island, the humidity will hit you like a brick wall when you get off the plane, and don't feel bad if you and baby need to crash. You'll have plenty of time to see everything later.
