  • Re-Introduction

I LOVE this site. I introduced myself probably over a year ago and check the site daily. I love all of the wonderful insight and advice that everyone has on various issues. I have decided that I really should start posting more, but I thought I would re-introduce myself first.

My husband is in a MD/PhD program and he just started his graduate school years. The hope of a more normal life during graduate school was helping me through the tough times in M1 and M2, but the transition has been a little tougher than we thought it would be. I'm sure once we settle into a routine it will be fine, I was just hoping he would have more free time.

I am really grateful for this site and am going to try to get more involved. I am not a talker, but I love listening to an interesting conversation and I guess I'd fallen into that grove here, but I'm going to try to change that. I look forward to many interesting conversations with you guys.

Welcome back! Ditto to what Lily said about the Mudphud lifestyle suckitude. We've been in training since 2001 and DH will be partcipating in the 2011 match, so believe me when I say I feel your pain!!!

I can tell you that the research years were some of our better ones, so don't lose hope yet. What area of research is your DH doing?

Welcome to you. I also mostly just soak it all in and learn from others as well. My DH has a research focus so we have a couple of things in common!

He is getting his PhD in Pharmacology, I think right now he is working on something to do with what happens to neurons with strokes. He really loves doing research, but right now I think he is just looking to the years ahead and feeling overwhelmed with the sense he has to have it all figured out now and get some good data soon so he can get some publications. It doesn't help that there are a couple people in the lab that have been there for about 6 years and haven't graduated yet and are starting to become bitter about it. He'll figure it out though, I think he always struggles with a transition because he likes to have everything figured out and know what he's doing. He was really enjoying the rotations he did over the summer (internal medicine specifically), and was kind of sad to be going back into the lab. Although if you asked him a year and a half ago he was ready to skip medical school and just do his PhD, so I think this is the perfect program for him.
