  • Re-introducing myself!

Hi all! I used to hang out here a couple years ago, back before the new and improved site launched. My old username, virgomusic, didn't work anymore when I tried to come back, so here I am under my new handle. That's not the only thing that's changed, either -- my husband changed specialties, from emergency medicine to physical medicine and rehabilitation. The switch entailed a move from Detroit to Boston to start a new program. It means his residency timeframe will be two years longer than we'd planned, but he was so miserable in EM, and is so much happier now, that I don't mind.

I'm a classical pianist and composer, and I write a blog about music. I love living in Boston – it's beautiful, and it's a great place for classical music!

What I am frustrated about right now is, we just found out he has to begin applying now for fellowship positions that start in July of 2012. We originally thought that would happen next fall. I'll write more about that in another post.

I look forward to chatting with other med spouses here! I'd love to know if there are any other Boston-area and/or PM&R med-spouses here.

Welcome back! We had to do fellowship stuff really early too. We've known for 18 months and we're not moving for another six.

Welcome back - I remember you! My husband will also be applying for a 2012 fellowship, which is a little unexpected and causing some angst.

Welcome back. I think it's odd that many fellowships have you apply years in advance. We found out in May and move this June/July for dhs fellowship. Glad to hear you guys are in a better place!

Thanks, everyone! I guess the upside to applying for fellowship so early is that the suspense about where we'll end up will be over sooner... right now it's a headache, tho! :P

I know, it's true! When we tell people we grew up in California, they always ask us if we hate the winters here. But we actually kind of like it -- the snow is pretty, and the cold is not so bad if you're dressed for it. Plus, I have discovered the wonders of cashmere, so I need to keep living where I can wear it!
