  • Hello from Neurohubby

Glad to find you all. I look forward to meeting any husbands of physicians, especially those who have already survived med school, residency, fellowship and the first few years of practice with their wives and children while trying to maintain a career of their own. Has anyone done this happily? What's the secret to keeping the calm, collected attitude when it's obvious (to me anyway) that the way we approach all aspects of healthcare in this country is to line the pockets of businesses and individuals who don't know the first thing about the healing arts and sciences?

    Welcome neurohubby!

We have quite a few lovely gentlemen who meet most of your criteria! We also have quite a few fabulous women who somehow manage to meet the needs of job, spouse, and children.

As for happily? It all depends on how you define happy and which particular day you happen upon each and every one of us- you'll find us to be a diverse group of people who all have different tolerance levels for different aspects of the medical lifestyle- and even that can depend on the issue, the person, the amount of sleep they've had, and all of those other fun variables called Life!

Come on down to the forums and participate often, we look forward to getting to know you better!

    Jenn

      Hello from another neurohubby.
Please don't tell me bad things about the first few years of practice - that's currently the light at the end of the tunnel that's keeping me going.

Welcome, and make yourself at home. Go check out the old posts on Mr. MD forum - there have been some interesting discussions in the past, though it's pretty sporadic.

(edited, as I looked back and saw the awesome negativity 8O - sorry I was having a rotten day)

        fluffhead - tunnel light

Don't worry - the first 5 years post-fellowship have been fantastic if I can keep focused on the right priorities. My two (3.5 and 7.9 years) are great fun and we got into camping/canoeing this summer - a really cheap thrill for all.
It's only when I deal with finances or medicine (which, of course happens every day) that I get frustrated. It's not too tough to keep distracted with the good stuff.
Thanks for the pointers - I'll look through the postings.

        Clearly unedited streaming commentary,

Welcome. As DCJenn said, I am one of those "lovely gentlemen".

I'm behind you in the journey. DW and I married right before med school and now we're in intern year.

          We're doing well so far.

Haven't a clue because neurohubby's wife has left medicine all together. (wise, wise woman)

Strange, because I just found the "new posts" function a couple of weeks ago. I coulda swore his post came up as a "new one" b/c that is the way I've been navigating the board ever since I found that option. Weird and .
