  • First timer- Husband of a PGY1

    Hello all!

I am the husband of a PGY1 Surgery resident. What fun!?!?!? We were married during undergrad and now have a 8 month old son. We moved (again) for residency to somewhere that I can't find work that offsets the cost of child care so I am getting to experience being a SAHD. It is a little weird, but I wouldn't trade this time with my son for anything.

Hopefully there are some other husbands on here.... If not, I guess I will just interject a male opinion here and there around the site just to stir things up a bit!

Welcome! I know there are other husbands/male SOs on here...though I think the ladies drown them out sometimes! I always enjoy their opinions when they do chime in, so post often!

Welcome JT! I'm also a SAHD, wife is PGY3 in Ob/gyn.

You get a double whammy from the isolation of a SAHD and being a "single" med spouse parent. It's hard, but I wouldn't trade this for regular work/day care.

You'll definitely find that things get easier as you get comfortable with your role and your child gets older. Also, your wife will be under less stress as time goes along and she gains more experience. Those first few months are especially brutal.
