    Hi Everyone,
I am Kesha and my husband is a 4th med student. He is applying for Orthopedics. I am a PhD student and will be finished with my requirements but the dissertation before match day. We have been married for 5 years and we have no children. Actually we are planning to start working on that after the match. However, I have been told that it may be best to have a child in the 2nd year vs the 1st year of residency. Just because there will be so many changes taking place during the first year. Any thoughts on that? We would also like to purchase our first home after the match. Does anyone know about the special mortgage programs for recent medical graduates?

    Hi Kesha,
Welcome to the boards! My husband is also matching this year, in neurosurgery. Can't put my two cents in on the kid issue since we don't have any yet, but as for the loans my friend who is married to a resident said they got their great rate through Bank of America and their special medical mortgage!

Good luck with match, we have a friend that is a resident in Ortho in Boston if you're looking there I'm happy to make an introduction or pass along any questions!
Wife to NSG out of training, mom to 2, 10 & 8, and a beagle with wings.

      HI Kesha!

      Welcome.

We have covered both of those topics extensively in the various forums. If you can't find recent versions, go through the archives.

No one seems to have a definitive answer on the "when" though but people have added their exeriences and insights which may help you in the 'planning'.

As for the homebuying thing, we have a thread started right now about that. There are several banks mentioned that have programs for physicians.
