Hello. Cool idea for a site!

At age 33, my husband decided to fufill his dream and try to get into med school. He has been working on his premed/science credits for about 2 years now, and plans to take his MCATs in April. Generally, he has 1 weekday evening off of classes and volunteering at a hospital a week, plus working full time.

We have a 3 year old son and another boy due in February 2004.

Simply put, we are feeling the strain.

So I am hoping to learn some coping skills and well, just have a sounding board for my frustrations. My girlfriends can't really relate to my particular situation, I feel like I would be betraying him by complaining to his folks, and my mom is just too absorbed in her other kids' dramas to be of much help.

    That's my intro

Hi and welcome-- my husband is a non-trad med student, first year, and I've been where you are now. He was studying all the time for MCATs, working full time, had a medical interpreting job on the side, and volunteered about 10-15 hr per week at the hospital, all while we had a 3 yr old! When I had twins, he had already taken the MCATs but still had to do the interviews and applications... Now that he's in school things have settled down- I'm sure you'll find encouragement and advise in this forum. Good luck!

Aloha from paradise! And the other side of training!

Hi! I just wanted to welcome you to the boards. We were/are in a similar situation. My hubby started med school last year at age 28 and we have an alomst 6 yr old boy, 3.5 yr old girl and 6 week old girl. Life can get very crazy and busy around here especially during mid terms/finals but we always have made it work. It helps that DH always puts our marriage and family first but it can be done no matter your age. Good luck with the MCAT's and post often and keep us informed!
