Chicago is a cool city. I'm another one who never set foot in our training city prior to the match. It worked out well for us and now that we've moved on, I miss my peeps in the training city like crazy.

Good luck in the match! It's such a crazy time.

I also live in the Midwest. Any while we didn't interview neurosurgery, we do live in one of those cities and interviewed at most of the others, so I kind of know COL and stuff like that.

Welcome and best of luck with the match. FWIW, in my experience the N/S spouses on this board tend to be the happiest amongst all surgical specialty spouses on this board. I truly hope this is true for you and yours. Keep us posted!

To answer the previous questions: Yes, I do work. I'm a PA, which works out very well with a husband in medicine because where there are doctors, there are PAs (usually, and more so in some states than others). As far as what we're looking for in a city, my DH and I are both very outdoorsy people, so an area with good access to outdoor activities (hiking, biking esp.) would be ideal. Other than that, we're not really picky. Living in a safe city with some good restaurants would be nice, but as we've been in St Louis for the past few yrs, we've learned to get along without those attributes (no offense to any native St Louisans out there...).

And thanks for all the offers for insider info on some of these areas! As we get closer to putting together our rank list, I'm sure I'll have questions.
