  • From USA to BA...

    ...and back again (soon-ish?)!
Hey, hey...I'm new to this forum, but wanted to say hello!
I am from the Pacific Northwest (US), but have been living in Buenos Aires since 2010 because my Argentine fiance is attending medical school here and we couldn't handle such a distance any longer. 'We' have two more years of school, maaaybe three, the internship here...then we're going back to the US for the residency. Sometime during all this we'll have our wedding, ha.
Things are feeling a bit more real now that my SO is working 24-hour shifts in an ER...small potatoes compared to what's coming, I know, but it sure feels differently than when they're in the den, studying within earshot.
Gah, there was a ton more I was going to say, but I'll cut my blabbing here.

Hope everyone had fantastic New Year's celebrations and I'll see you on the boards.
    Nice to meet you all!

Welcome to the group! A lot of us are PNWers, but I think you're our first iMSNer in Argentina.

Thanks! I think you're right: I made a quickie search earlier today, and I think the only thread mentioning Argentina was about that van der Sloot fellow.

I am really missing the Pacific Northwest on these hot summer days. AND I'm missing the Northern Hemisphere in general...Summer? During Christmas? What?!

I just had to do a double-take with you mentioning summer. We have a foot of snow on the ground and it took a couple weeks to dig out our stupidly steep driveway.

Duh -- Southern Hemisphere. Of course it's summer.

Welcome!I think you're right about being our first Argentinian resident. Is medical school in Argentina typically 4 years like it is in the US?

Welcome! One of my best friends is from Buenos Aires and actually just moved to Portland a couple months ago. Haha.

Her birthday is in November and I'm not sure she ever got used to it being winter during her birthday.

                      Hi, thanks!
No, here it's 7 years. I think there are quite a few differences between med school here and there. I've been poking around this forum (and another site) a bit, and I'm like, 'Huh?' I guess I didn't know as much about the system in the US as I thought I did.

Aw man...this tugs at my heartstrings! LOL I miss snow so much. Here we're ping ponging between hot, hot, hot and raining/flooding. What I wouldn't give for some snow! (Of course, as soon as I'm back home and driving in winter conditions, I'll be wishing for Buenos Aires.)

I hear you! My birthday is in a few weeks, will be the third B-day spent here...and it just seems so weird to have summer and summer-options on how to spend the day.
During the first November I was here, I decided to treat my Argentine family to a traditional Thanksgiving dinner, complete with a can of Ocean Spray cranberry sauce I brought with me from the States. I was a sweaty pig trying to roast a turkey and make all the fixings (AC isn't something that's a given down here). Now I understand why Christmas food in Argentina is usually fruit, sandwiches, and other cold things.

To the rest of you: thanks so much for the warm welcome!

EDIT: It occurs to me now that maybe this thread should of been started in the 'Welcome' section of The Lobby, not here. Feel free to move it if you wanna. Sorry!

Is medical school in Argentina equivalent to a combination of our undergrad and medical school?
