You'd be surprised how many folks have two or more kids during residency (myself included). I know one doc who had four during residency, one for each PGY year. We had ours during PGY1 and PGY2 earning my husband a "most reproductive resident" award. Folks are still betting on us announcing a twin pregnancy before we are done. So far, looks like we'll be able to keep our title anyway since most of the other residents in my husband's program had their babies during PGY3.

We have 35 kids in a program with 30 residents 1/2 of the 5th year class has 3 kids each. One of our residents, whose wife is a peds attending, is expecting twins in Oct/Nov!

DH's "home" (med school) program had maybe 2 or 3 kids total...that's part of why we ranked it low (the residents were less than understanding about family stuff).

Another IT person here (well, kinda - I code websites, but I also help our clients with email and general internet stuff, too, DNS, domain registration, FTP, etc.). Glad you found us!

in my wife's med class, i think there's was maybe 2 other people who had kids. most were single--and only got marry during 4th yr or after match. i think most med schools/hospital my area are not family friendly--aka, no leniency for being pregnant or breastfeeding. there was a myth/story of a girl who gave birth birth and came back to work the next day..

Welcome! I worked in IT prior to having kids. (I SAH now.) Resodency is hard, and I hope the next few years pass quickly for you guys. As a fellow parent of bad sleepers, I understand. Mine didn't quite make it to 2 before STTN, but my oldest was 18 months and my youngest was 14 months. She's been teething for the past month, though, so we're back to multiple wakings per night. Lack of sleep really makes a bad residency situation much worse. This site is fantastic! Looking forward to getting to know you.
