        This.
We did med school and residency in L.A. -- we tend to visit family once a year and I'd love to add a new person to my meet n greet!

Totally jealous. One of my friends from HS was an instructor at CIA and now has his own bakery/restaurant. I'm always in awe of his food porn.

I really hope to start my own bakery store someday but with hubby practically moving every year it's hard to start from scratch everywhere I go!!

So... Can someone tell me what I need to expect after this year? Or how this whole year works? I'm cracking my brain trying to figure out if I'll be moving again or not

Shouldn't have to move before residency unless your SO is attending a DO school that allows clinical rotations to be set up by the students at different locations and your SO has arranged to do this.

3rd and 4th year are filled with clinical rotations in different specialties. Some med students schedule audition rotations at hospitals that have residencies they're interested in matching into; some don't schedule audition rotations.

Does your SO have any idea which specialty they're interested in? Like all things in medicine, location and specialty play a HUGE part in the advice/info that can be given.

He actually is a DO student And so far he's really liked his surgical rotation that he's in currently and pediatrics. He thought he was going to like Ortho but not so much. We would love to come back to So Cal but we've heard it's pretty competitive out here so looking at other states but we haven't rules out east coast or anywhere in the US

MS-4 DO spouse here. We moved after 2nd year from our med school city to another city where he did most of his rotations. He also did a lot of aways, both by choice and because his school required a bunch of partner sites to be filled. So your DH may do some traveling around before residency, but he'll need a home base while he does... 4th year is all about the applications and interviews. Is your DH working on an application list yet, and doing all the research about programs he'll want to apply to? My understanding is that most CA programs don't take DOs, and those that do require that he have taken the USMLE steps one and two - most don't take the COMLEX. I think CA also isn't a DO-friendly state when it comes to practicing and insurance reimbursement. It's unfortunate.

Anyway feel free to PM me if you have any questions about the application and match process for DOs since we are going through it now! Good luck!
