Well, you might not hear "I can't, I have to study" nearly as often. Instead it will be "I can't, I'm on call/post-call.....". The rotations can be an adjustment and are totally different than classroom time. The good news is that most medical students enjoy the rotations because they feel like they are finally doing what they have been working so hard to get to. Fourth year is usually pretty nice, too.

There will be much less consistency in your husband's schedule during the next two years, but some rotations will be really nice, while others will suck. It will be hard to plan long-term, particularly during third year, but fourth year should be a little better, like Nellie said, since he will have more electives and more control over what he will be doing.

Cultivate flexibility and you will survive just fine!
