Hi all!

My name is Meg, and I am new here as of today! My husband is just finishing up his first year of cardiology fellowship at an academic hospital on the east coast of the US. I have a full time job that I really love - but also two part time online teaching jobs that I do not love nearly as much. Those teaching gigs are to pay for daycare for our two young children who are 4.5 and a few weeks shy of 2.

I am here because I find that it can be a challenge to find people who understand the medical spouse lifestyle - for lack of a better term and because it can be a challenge to find time for more traditional forms of social support when I'm trying to do all the things all the time (I am guessing folks here can relate!).

I am also interested in hearing (reading?) the experiences of significant others who are further along in their journey. My husband is ever the optimist (great quality, right?) so historically he has not been very accurate in his depictions of what life will look like at the next stage in his career.

We are 9 days from finishing fellowship eleven years after he started med school, but who’s counting (me!).

My people are two, four, and six and have been along for the ride the whole time.

My husband starts practice in August back on the east coast (we are in fellowship right now).

MS4 here, but after a career change, post-bacc process, and dual degree. Have a 1 month old to hang with for the next phase of the journey.

I've found a ton of support here and I know you will, too. How do you squeeze in any fun between your jobs, kiddos, and husband? Tell me your ways!

Hi! We did training in the East Coast but have moved back to the Midwest and have been in the big boy job for a few years with just one 4 year old. I joined here during his first year of residency, so almost ten years now! Welcome!

Welcome! We're East coast too. My boys are the same age as your kids. Hubby is eight years out of training and we met during med school. He's anesthesia/critical care. I stay home with the kids and study online.
I think the post training journey varies a lot by specialty and by job. Our experience has been mixed so far but it is definitely better than training.

Hi! We are in New England. We left for school/residency, and came back home. We have three kids- 13, 14, and 15. We’ve been out since 2010 and our kids also did the journey with us. I’m not a super active member but have been here almost 13 years. There are others that have been here longer. Welcome 😊

Welcome! I 'm also on the east coast and have been here since the beginning of time!!!! I joined well over 15 years ago when my kids were in high school (they both are married with children now)!! My husband is Pulmonary / IM and I am an Adult Nurse Practitioner.

Hi! We finish training in 2 days. 🎉🎉🎉We have a 4.5yo and a 2yo. It's been a rough journey, and I'm sure we will have more rough spots, but I'm optimistic that things will get better from here.
