Hi, I've been lurking and reading off and on for a few years now (mostly off for the last 2 years), and finally decided to join and maybe participate a bit. DH is a PGY3 surgery resident and I stay home with our 2 kiddos - 2yrs and 3mos old. I spend my free time reading, sewing, cooking, and trying to retain my own identity. In my former life I was a biochemist, but I've swiftly adapted to a life of homemaking I guess.

Welcome! You’ve come to the right place.
Are you little people boys or girls? What region of the country? Will your DH have New Years off to enjoy some time together or did he already get his days off this holiday season?

Welcome! Mom to two destructive boys (I can count two broken toys so far since Christmas day!) and a girl on the way. Glad to hear you had some family time over the holidays!

Hi! MS4 planning on ortho. I finished my MSW in May and just started working. We have a 7mo boy who hates sleep, so we're tired, stressed, and adjusting to parenthood, career change, and upcoming residency over here. Lots of coffee, some wine, and yawning in my life right now.

It was a steep learning curve for me.

For those of you who also are or were SAHMs to young children, how did you develop a life beyond littles? I used to do quite a bit of volunteering with some after school programs for underprivileged kids, but I don't have a reliable sitter for that now, and it won't really work for us to pay someone much to babysit so I can volunteer. DS1 goes to a parent's day out program, but DS2 is too young for it for now, and I'm not sure how the budget will work to send 2 kids next year, although I'm surely going to try. One of our dogs is a registered therapy dog, but I'm technically not allowed to take littles along on "work" outings with him. Everything that allows kids to come along seems to be designed FOR the kids!

Ah well. This too shall pass.

Yeah I was totally not expecting that when I quit my job. My boss offered me a raise to stay and was so surprised I was quitting because I was so career-oriented, and then a few months ago while discussing preschools with my neighbor (ob/gyn resident) I mentioned I never went and she was surprised because I seem to do ok socially and intellectually. Um, DO OK??? I wanted to be like, honey I just quit a job before you met me where I made way more money than you will be making for the next 4 years, and I was LIKED and RESPECTED. But instead I bit my tongue and agreed to drive her daughter to and from preschool. I can do at least this good for future society. This, and wipe another snotty nose.
