    Hello all!

    Just wanted to introduce myself. DH is a 2nd-yr fellow in peds cardiology at Mayo. I'm a SAHM and have 3 kids (5y,2-1/2y,8m). I can't believe I didn't find this forum until now. It's so nice to be able to relate to a lot of the posts about the residency lifestyle. The whole financial aspect of medical training is so depressing, especially because I'm a SAHM and we're only living on DH's salary. I've been with DH since before med school and I can't believe he's almost done with his training. 2 more years (including this year). Woo hoo!

    Welcome! Glad that you finally found this board.

    You'll find that there are a few others who also have spouses at Mayo or will be starting residency there next year.

    Do you guys know where you want to settle when DH is done with his fellowship?

          We have no idea where we'd like to end up. My family is still in Chicago so it would be nice to get back there. But, the cost of living in Chicago is so high that I'm not sure how we'd afford to live! We both have significant student loans & cc debt. I hope there is a chance that he may negotiate student loan repayment with his future employer. It's exciting to think that perhaps this time next year we'll have an idea of where we'll be.

            Welcome!

            My husband is a peds neuro fellow and thankfully we only have two more years, too. It does go on, doesn't it!

            I remember how happy I was when I discovered this place. It's like whew...other people who KNOW that 1)we're not millionaires 2) My spouse is the walking wounded from lack of sleep, stress, etc 3) we have pretty much no control over where we live for a rather large stretch of time!

                  *Wistful sigh* Can I just say that one of the reasons we're looking forward to moving to Chicago is because it would lower our cost of living? My brother just moved into an apartment in Wrigleyville that's way nicer than ours and for less rent. I have (a) built up Chicago to be a paradise in my mind and (b) convinced myself that we're moving there, even though that's far from guaranteed. It's not healthy.

                    so you're livin' in Minnesota, eh? Ofda! (as the locals say).

                    We are growing quite a contingency up here in the North Woods. Anyway, how goes it at the Mayo? We're just up the road at the other big evil empire, ooops, I mean big program at the "U".


                    We definitely have to have a local IMSM get together.

                      I don't know about the other Rochester folks, but I'm finding it a bit boring here. Not much to do. This will be our 2nd year here. I HATE the mosquitos and the ladybugs!!!!!!

                      A local IMSM would be great!
