Hello everyone! I just joined after someone referred me and I'm so excited to have found this forum. My name is Mary and I am the wife of a MS3 (James) who is working through his rotations right now. We have a one-year old son and another little one due in May. I work full-time, so I'm starting to feel the pressure of my husband's schedule. I only have one friend who also has a MS husband, so I am hoping to find some more folks to chat with--I'm also seriously looking for advice about planning for residency--I'm stressed out already worrying about it! Hope to talk to lots of you soon.

Hi, Mary! Where in Ohio? My hubby's a third year at Case (currently doing Inpatient Internal Medicine at the Cleveland Clinic). In fact, he's on call now -- he really REALLY hated to go in today!
Good luck with everything -- if there's anything I've learned from these boards it's that residency's no picnic, and less so when you've got little ones. :\
But welcome, because this is the best source of information for folks in our situation!

(EDIT: HA! I was the one to refer you here! And I now see you're in Columbus. Well, welcome aboard!)Alison

Welcome! This is a great site -- one I had found sooner in our training!

Hi Mary,
Welcome to the board! I don't mean to hijaack the thread, but I have a question for you and Alison (since your spouses are one year further along than my wife). Do rotation sites often keep MS 3's around on the holidays? In other words, will the real holiday-planning fun begin next year?

Welcome, Mary!
Kevin--My husband was always told to "take off and enjoy Christmas" . So he did...and then when he was an intern/resident, he kind of got shafted because he was doing the "real" work (translation...he had a license so he was stuck in the hospital!) Enjoy studenthood now!

Welcome, Mary! Glad you found the site. You should be able to find lots of helpful information and support here.
I'm Nellie, married to a derm resident, living in the Pacific NW with 2 young daughters. I worked FT during DH's 3rd and 4th years, part of that time with an infant, so I feel for you.

Phew!
Hi all-thanks for such a warm welcome--I'm trying to think of the questions you all asked! First, yes, Alison, thanks for the referral! Love it! We are in Columbus, James is at OSU. I am from Dayton (Kettering actually!) so we're about an hour-ish away from Wright State! My parents still live around there. Kevin-the holiday thing seems to vary. James got Thursday and Friday off for Thanksgiving, but someone in his group had to volunteer to go in on Sat. morning for rounds (this was L/D week in OB/GYN) and then he had to work all day Sunday. However, the other OB group that was assigned to a different hospital got Thurs-Sun off. His rotation ends three days before Xmas, his test is two days before, and then he has off until Jan 3rd. So, it just seems that much like everything else, you have to just play it by ear because it depends on the rotation and the hospital. I think that more than anything else, your family just has to be understanding and accept whatever amount of time you can see them!! (although this is easier said than done...) Anyway, I have the mother-in-law from, well, a not very nice place, so just check in with me if you need any family-splitting-up-the-holiday stories...

Small world...I went to Kettering Fairmont.... um... last year. O.K., well, I graduated in '91. My mom still lives there and DH is from Brookville. We each have siblings living in Columbus (Dublin and German Village). We are desperately trying to get back to Ohio, preferably Cinci. However, I'm sure that the whims of the surgery Gods have other plans for us, like a nice fellowship in Alaska or something.
Anyway, welcome aboard.
