  • Residency is almost over and now I find this group!

    Hi everyone!

I'm new to this sight and I wish I had found it earlier. My name is Pam and my husband is in his last 7 months of residency. I'm now a stayathome spouse since we have 2 kids who are sick often enough that I can't hold a real day job. (was computer nerd) I've been working on a blog as a place to express some of what we've gone through as well as funny stories that I didn't want to forget. It's nice to find a forum to talk as well. I haven't updated things in a couple of months.

Really we've had it pretty easy these last 2 years since my husband is in Derm..(OK all together..."awww poooor thiiiings...") but man, those first 5 years with 2 kids, that is a whole other story. We had a pretty hairy time for a bit there, but I may have accumulated some wise ways-and-means on the trip. If I could help ease the way for even one spouse out there I'd be really pleased because this journey is no picnic. (Not unless the drug reps are paying for it. Then it's a really yummy picnic)

My interests are Knitting for sanity, art because it's my calling in life, home design because someday I will, reading because I can't help myself, and cooking because it can't be avoided.

I can't wait to read some of your posts so on with the show....

ps my user name, atzbanite, basically means bitchy or pre-menstral, it that tells you anything!

Welcome! Heck, we're glad to have anyone who can keep a sense of humor about. (Several of us have recently turned the corner into bitter shrews. Did I mention bitter? Shrews?)

Yikes, so welcome aboard, and feel free to jump in when people ask innocent questions like mom2three just did!

          Jenn

PS- mom2three- We have a couple ob spouses who will give the inside scoop on that internship/residency but generally speaking, it sucks worse that you can even believe.

Way to soft sell residency to the newbies, Jenn!

            You crack me up.

...and you weren't referring to Moi as one of those bitter ones, eh?

nah, Kelly, it's just that I can feel the skin shrinking to my bones as I shrivel on up...

              Jenn

PS- Apologies to the newbies, it's been a long, long, long fellowship.

We can't sugar-coat it for the newbies, otherwise they will be in such utter shock when the walls come crumbling down around them. Much like it was for me...

It is better to know, and to know as soon as possible. So that when they become bitter shrews like us they have somewhere to turn. Besides, no matter what language we use to describe how bad it is, it is worse to live it, a practical years-long horror film where you keep getting stabbed by your spouse over and over and over again.

                Better stop now. :!

Misery is fodder for the best humor.

Note to Newbies: I'm sure that you all will have a much easier time than we are joking about. Keep hope and fight the good fight.

                      Mom 2 three--

Yes, I'm sorry for our little joke fest...some of us older spouses have hit some rough spots lately. Quite frankly, mine stem both from residency and just general marital rough spots. With this being said, I wish you every luck during your impending residency. There will be rough spots for sure, but you sound like you know what you're getting into and have a good attitude. This is half the battle. Best of luck and welcome to you! Please join in and don't let a battle axe like me scare you off.

Now, to remember where I laid my good attitude....

                        THIS CRACKS ME UP.

First, welcome to the newbie!!!! HOWDY and join the fun. We all wish we'd had this site sooner I think!!!

Second, I NEVER EVER comment in the "yeah WOO HOO we matched" dialogues. To me it's like celebrating the priveledge of...BEING ETERNALLY IN LABOR WITH NO DRUGS.

Whatever you've gone through to get to residency, well, lets just say residency is Dantes level of HELL he left out.

                        Sugarcoat???? NAAAAAH!!!!

Read a bit of the blog: I had pretty similar feelings but reversed. I was NEVER going to live in the Northeast - godless, rude Yankees that they are! Well, now that we're going on year four here in Boston I've found a few natives here who weren't raised in a barn (manners-wise) and I'm actually fond of the place in a curious way. Can't wait to get back to civilization, though.
