  • G'day

    Hello!

This is half introduction, and half reintroduction, as I officially joined the site probably three years ago now, but sort of dropped out of the loop so probably noone will remember!

Back then my Japanese husband (a cardiothoracic surgeon) and I had recently got married, and were living in Japan, where we met. Oh boy, the support from this site back then was so valuable, as the hours were just horrendous - frequent 100 hour weeks are the norm, even for qualified specialists!

But after a while, we managed to escape back to the sanity of Australia. (Hmm...as sane as it can be when married to a doctor!) It was a busy and stressful time, getting a visa, job and medical registration for DH and then packing everything up and making the big international move. However...it was about to get more exciting, as I fell pregnant about a month after we returned!

Add to this that he then undertook his surgical fellowship exams (cramming four years of knowledge in his second language) only a year after we came back, and you have the recipe for some pretty intense times! The birth itself (just two months before the exams) was extremely difficult and pretty much debilitated me for several months afterwards. In addition, DD was a total "non-sleeper" for the first year of her life! Why the existence of this site had slipped my mind during that time, I really cannot remember, but I could have made some rather colourful posts back then.

Anyway...long story short, DH passed the exam and now only works 60-70 hours a week, DD sleeps through the night, and life has stabilised for now. So here I am with a few spare minutes, and I thought I'd drop back in and show my face again.

I'm looking forward to reconnecting with this lovely bunch of people - it is so nice to come to a place where people REALLY understand what it's like to marry into this crazy profession...

Thank you very much for the warm welcome!

I look forward to having a good search around the new site and participating in some great chats with you all.

Actually, I noticed one thing that looked interesting - the MDFamily Magazine link. But when I went to check it out, I wasn't able to either view it or subscribe. And the forums on that site had all been hijacked...does anyone know how to read the articles?

Thanks again for making me feel welcome.
