    Welcome Ludy!

Is your husband doing his residency in Mexico or in the States? Welcome to a great resource and support system. Everyone here is either going through training or has survived training and lived to tell about it.

            Ludy,

Brooklyn isn't that far from Princeton (on the train). We usually make it into the city every 6 to 8 weeks.

              Ludy,

I hope that you are enjoying life in the vibrant culture of New York! It sounds like the whole immigration process is a nightmere. As far as the residency goes, I promise that the first year is the hardest. It only gets better because you will both learn to adapt.

I would love to "talk" more in Spanish--I'm enthralled by the language and Latin American culture. I studied Latin American literature and Spanish in college. It has only been a few years and yet I am starting to forget so much. I'm thinking about taking classes again whenever I can find the time. Feel free to email me at sears_kelly@hotmail.com

              !Hasta Luego!

                Welcome Ludy!

I am in the same boat with you with my husband just starting residency. We are in San Antonio, TX and my husband is going into anesthesia. He is doing a transitional year for internship. He only worked 86 hours last week so I guess we are starting out slow!!!!! He is in the pediatrics transitional ward now and it is a nice way to start.

Good luck to you in New York and with the immigration process. I keep trying to convince myself that the residency years will be a great adventure! I hope it is!

Hi Robin , that's good for you , probably you can see each other more than us.

I have a question for you, my husband applied last year for anesthesia but he couldn't match so we have to do it in scramble but he has to change for internal medicine, he want to apply again this year for PGY2 so my question is if your husband can check if is there a position open for next June PGY2 in Anesthesia , that would be great !!!!!!

We have to pass for Fifth Pathway program last year , so this is a red flag for my husband, he went to study to Mexico and then he had to do this Fifth Pathway , they take him like a Foreign Student and is a little more difficult , anyway...........

                  Thank you

                  Ludy

                    Hi Ludy,

I will have my husband check it out for you. Anesthesia was MUCH more competitive this year to get into. My husband is a D.O. and he found quite a bit of bias on the interview trail. He is the only D.O. in the anesthesia program here. I can imagine that it is a bit of a hurdle with being considered a foreign medical student. I wish you both the best of luck. Anyway... I will have my hubby see if there will be any openings for J2.

Hang in there. I bet opportunities will open up also with his connections in New York as he goes through his intern year.

What do you think of New York? I have never been there. Are you finding your way around yet? Have you been able to meet people? I am finding I am very homesick for Arizona right now. I miss my friends. Hope all is going well for you.

                    Robin

Hi Ludy! I am also "Mexican", and we are going to start going through the long and stressing process you have already been through...(the match, the residency as a foreign med student, the language change, and so on) I actually feel pretty excited about the change. We don't know yet exactly where we will be living, but we are still happy and excited about the new bunch of experiences we will have.

Where do you want to work and what are your choices?..

Keep in touch and good luck!!!

                          Ludy,

My husband is a CA3 year resident in anesthesia. He is chief resident this year. He is also a foreign medical graduate. So, you never know. A lot of foreign medical student can go far. Just don't give up!
