      Dear Kris,

My husband is from India and went to med school there as well. For any of you married to a foreign med school grad, it is a different experience compared to grads of US med schools, don't you agree? A residency doesn't just drop from the sky; it takes a lot of extra paperwork. Thankfully my husband didn't need an H-1 visa as he is a permanent resident, but I know of many very qualified foreign med school grads (excellent grades, have been published, USMLE I and II scores in the mid -90s) that go on interviews and are told straight faced that the only problem is their visa . Oh well, it just makes them that much more grateful when they do get a residency ... as we are in this household .
