hi, my name is dean lutrin and I will be starting as a surgical resident soon. currently working in Johannesburg hospital trauma unit as an er doc. I have regular panic attacks about how surgery will affect my 5 month old marriage and found this site... I need all the insight and encouragement I can find. I have shared some of the posts here with my dear wife and it's great to know that other people are dealing so well with these challenges. My dear wife does not spend time on the 'net so I'll be our rep on this site.

Welcome to the site. I am eager to hear about your adventures doing residency in South Africa! My husband spent two months there near Johannesburg doing Ob/gyn and familiy practice as a medical student. He absolutely loved africa!
If your wife would like to have our newsletter, just sign up on the main page. I just mailed out the first round of the Sept/Oct. edition, but the international newsletters and residency program newsletters are going out on Tuesday......
I look forward to getting to know you...and hopefully your wife as well.

Hi there-
Welcome- and welcome to your wife! Definitely let Kris know your mailing address because we take a lot of 'stuff' from the boards and cram them in to the newsletter.
We're happy to support you and your wife, any way that we can!

Dean,
Please accept my untimely but sincere welcome to the boards. Congrats on the surgical residency position and your new marriage! You definitely have a lot of changes going on in your life.
While you two will definitely face challenges, your awareness and commitment to each other will help defray many of these issues. Welcome to both of you.
Kelly
