  • Hi Everybody

Boy am I glad to find you! My husband is in his third month as a transitional year intern in the military. He worked 110 hours last week! Its great to find a group of people who can "share the pain" !!!!!!!

Welcome aboard! We have a healthy-sized community of military spouses, so you definately have some friends here that are going through the exact same thing.

I hear you about the 110 hours/week...we just finished residency and fellowship, and there were some really hard times!

    Come here and talk/vent anytime!

Hi Karin! So, your hubby is transitional year in the Air Force! What is he specializing in? My husband did an away rotation at Lackland in the interventional radiology dept at Wilford Hall. I really, really love San Antonio. Are you guys going to be there for the rest of his residency? (I really don't know how it works when a military officer does a military residency - my husband is active duty but he is doing his residency at a civilian hospital). Nice to meet you!

          Hi Karin,

Nice to meet you. My husband is Air Force and finished an OB/GYN residency at Lackland/BAMC in 2001. We just finished our first year out of residency at Sheppard AFB in Wichita Falls, TX and have three years to go.

I know what you mean about the hours. My husband averaged over 100 hours a week for all four years of residency and it was more like 125 hours the first two years.

We loved San Antonio and I would love to go back -- unfortunately, our family is in the midwest (Indiana and Kansas) and we would like them to be more than occasional visitors to our kids -- we have three boys, aged 7, 4, and almost 1.

I look forward to getting to know you better!

I forgot to say -- we have been married for twelve years, too! When is your anniversary?

              Hi there!

Welcome to the group. We have a military spouses section below where we can discuss some of the more interesting aspects of our unique situations!

I'm Jenn, my husband is in his third year of peds residency. He's in the Army. Everyone else here is Air Force. What branch is husband in?

Come on in and join the many varied conversations below!

                Hey Karin-

We're in San Antonio, too! My husband is currently at Fort Hood but the peds program is a dual program so he's mostly at Wilford Hall. Small world. Robin (another spouse here) just moved to SA as well. We should all gather at some point!

                  Hi Karen,

I am here in San Antonio too. My husband is in his transitional year at University Hospital and is doing anesthesia. Russ is on surgery for the next couple of months so I can totally relate to the 110 plus hours. I told him that I will see him in November!

We have four boys ranging from 10 to 2. We also have been married 12 years. It would be fun to get together sometime for lunch or something. Warning .... my two-year old who is actually almost 3, is on the go. It is hard for me to keep him contained for any period of time! LOL!!

Welcome to the board. This is a great place to vent, share experiences and realize we are not alone!

                  Robin

                    Sally--our anniversary is Oct 12

OK--Im thinking we are approaching a BUNCO quota with all you San Antonio girls. Anyone interested?

Scott is doing interventional radiology after this year. Hopefully with better hours.

Does anyone know if there is a spouses group at Lackland?

                      Hello all,

Well I feel like such the newcomer!! My husband is still in med. school! I did A LOT of research and discovered that I had better learn to keep myself busy for a while. This web site was given to us by a 3rd year. You all have so much info/experience. I can't wait to chat with you further!

                      Tera

                      * We are also a military family!

                        Hey there-

Bamc has an auxialiary so it would follow that Wilford Hall has one. I'm sure there's a Family Support Group on base as well. I joined the auxiliary at BAMC but it didn't meet when I could get there. A bunch of us in Peds (spouses) kind of started our own this year.

                          Karin,

Sorry for the delayed response, but welcome to the boards. You have come to the right place. We have an assortment of new moms, military spouses, people whose spouses work more hours than sanity permits, and transplants to new cities. Hopefully, you will find a sounding board here. I look forward to chatting with you more.
