  • Hi... finally delurking

    Hi,

I've been coming to the boards (daily, multiple times a day) for about two years now but only recently started posting. With a little push from my good friend JulieL, I'm coming out from lurking.

My DH is a MS4 (goes to the same school as JulieL's H) and hopes to be an orthopod. We got our firt interview invite last night..woohoo. It's been so agonizing watching everyone else get oddles & oddles of invites, but that's ortho for you. Hopefully November and Dec will be our month. We have been married for 6 years; together for 10 this Jan. We met freshman year in the dorms. We have two kids (three if you count our 7 yr old Boxer); DS is 5.5 and DD is 22 mo. I am a SAHM but I have a degree in Human Development and Education and used to work as a counselor for emotionally disturbed children. I love SAH but it drives me insane when people comment about the lack of use of my degree which happens alot.

This place has been a great place for support and comfort (not knowing that I'm the only one doing the "medical spouse") for me, hopefully I can contribute in some way.

Boxers are the best. DH LOVES them. Ours is great with the kids. They abuse him and he just takes it. My cocker spaniel bit DS on the face when he was 10 months old.

Don't worry Davita, more interviews will come. Did you apply here?

You can get my number from Julie if you want to chat. It's okay, I like stalkers!

Thanks His ultimate goal is Pediatric Cardiology, so that basically means 3 years of peds residency, 3 years of fellowship in pediatric cardiology and possibly another 2 if he want to do intervenal (sp?). How many years does ortho take? I don't really know much about that specialty.

I think ortho is 7 w/o any research years or fellowships added in. I might be wrong (as always).

Jlynnb and I know someone who did PedsCards in Cleveland. I think they're in Oregon now. His wife had a PhD ... so calimomma ... don't feel bad about "not using your degree".

Plus - your degree and earning it are part of who you are today. It gets used.

                              Welcome. I'm glad you de-lurked.
