So when did everyone meet their husbands? I started dating mine the year just before his residency -- we had a fantastic time -- then jumped RIGHT into residency (and planned a wedding his internship year) so feel like we're starting off on a really difficult foot. Did some of you get a few years to get to know each other pre-residency or did some of you also start off in this very strange place?

I think there's a "how did you meet your significant other" thread here somewhere but I can't find it right now.
I met my fiance during freshman year in college, but we didn't start dating until the second year. He proposed during his first year of medical school and we're planning a wedding at the end of his third year. In a way it's a good thing that we got to know each other before all the craziness, but on the other hand I think I'll miss the quiet times together that much more.Cristina

Thanks guys. Snickle Dippin Doodle how much longer for you? (And is your husband also from Ireland?) And MissCrabette thanks for the heads up, will look for the thread. I'm interested in how other spouses "get to know" their DH's under the circumstances. I don't know if the man I fell in love with is still in there somewhere cuz he feels like someone else entirely; overall am struggling to get to know him our first year of marriage. We've known each other 15 years but not in a life-partner capacity, which is so different.

He's American, he went to med school in Ireland. That's how we met. I was studying in another college. He moved back here in June 2005 and I came with him. We've been married for 9 months. The tired, stressed out guy I see on a daily basis (or every other day, depending on rotation) is most definately not the guy I met two years ago. We just recently went on vacation and he was a different person, happy and carefree. It ws so good to see him that way. We have 3.5 years to go in residency. We're surgery too. I can't wait until we're done.Student and Mom to an Oct 2013 boy

Welcome. I've known mine since he was 15, so we've been through all 4 years undergrad, 4 years med, 5 year residency and 1 year fellowship. That + Indian in-laws and 2 kids ..
