So riddle me this, why do men get their Viagra paid for when I can't get my fertility drugs paid for. What medical necessity does Viagra serve? Some of the more invasive/controversial procedures like IVF I can understand but I paid thousands of dollars out of pocket for fertility drugs because my ovaries don't work and we weren't even doing IVF. We did nothing that the catholic church (or conservative groups) would consider "out of bounds".

I completely agree- but let's throw out something more complicated- like prosthetic limbs.

Should it matter how you lost your limb? Diabetes and a crappy lifestyle vs. in Iraq or Afghanistan? Assume for debate purposes that both people are veterans who recieve services from the VA. Should the person who through their own poor decisions receive the same top of the line prosthetic foot/leg as the 21 yo who got his blown off by an IED? and does the 21 yo need the fancy schmancy limb MORE than someone else?

In both cases, we (the taxpayers) are footing the bill.

or what about those cases where braces (tooth) are more than cosmetic- in my case I needed braces because I couldn't chew properly because I had some mouth abnormalities. If you looked at me, I probably looked like every other junior high school kid with braces but it was certainly more than cosmetic. (and to be honest, let's face it- our society values 'pretty' to the point where I'd argue that we're doing an economic disservice to people by NOT correcting teeth.)

PS- I have no answers to any of my qestions, just throwing stuff out there.
