They did...It is so sad that this relationship has kind of come to an end the way that it did. Many of the people that I know who used to travel to America every year (Florida, California etc) don't do it anymore...American goods were the rage...not so much anymore.

My BIL and SIL flew to the US for the first time last month and their traveldocumentary that they wrote to us was so negative that I was almost alarmed.

Unfortunately, our foreign policy decisions have had significant consequences for our relationships with countries that we really need to have on our side. We can't fight global climate change or terrorism alone.

Bush sucks.

Yes, I have heard the same. And that we're arrogant, wasteful, and materialistic. I have to say that I agree with the above to a certain extent, but I think that this sentiment stems from the fact that Germans still carry baggage from WWII, and are not "allowed" to be proud/patriotic (whatever you want to call it).

What grates on my nerves is when I hear people say that Americans have no culture. Since when are movies, music and clothes not culture? :huh:

That's pretty much what NY'ers think of the midwest and the south. Although I become horribly patriotic once we're overseas.

I'm sure that outside of large cities in Europe the idea of culture drastically changes. Social outtings are focused around local festivals and futball vs the Phillarmonic and Opera.
