We are definitely nosy neighbors, though. I just don't want to touch any of them. I want to see what's going on, though. I mean, I am a SAHM...

I've had it the other way. I like my nosy neighbors.

My husband, by his skills as a nosy neighbor, has determined that:
there is a house of illegal day laborers living on our street
the neighbor boys two houses down do not work at all or go to school or anything
the neighbor across the street 2 houses down has not come out of the closet yet, but clearly has a male friend
the neighbor directly across the street is an alcoholic
our next door neighbor is not allowed to smoke inside
He's learned more, too. He's really gifted. And really nosy. When DOES he get the time...
ANyway, we like our neighbors, except for the two working aged boys who play football in the street all day. We could maybe do without them in the neighborhood...Peggy
Aloha from paradise! And the other side of training!

i consider myself the neighborhood watch person. not here, really...cause we live in a private place with only one neighbor. but, when we lived outside of baltimore, miami, the caribbean...i was SO all over it.
i knew the regular cars, people, pets..the roosters(as the caribbean goes). i think im a good watchful SAHM!~shacked up with an ob/gyn~

The last two comments remind me of a woman who lived in a neighborhood that could be called borderline at best. She made it a goal to know all the kids hanging out on the corner, all her neighbors, all the ongoings in order to develop a sense of community in a neighborhood that clearly was deteriorating. I can't remember when or where I read this, but it makes sense.
I'm not a nosy neighbor, but don't b e down on your nosiness. You're creating a sense of community during a time when it is going away.

I've been called the Gladys Kravitz (with love) of Millridge Drive. The joke is that I know what's going on down on our cul-de-sac, and my friend Bernie (4 doors up) knows what's going on on the rest of our street.
My immediate neighbor loves that I pay attention. She'll call and ask if her cleaning lady has been, how many cars there were, etc. and I called one day to alert her that her garage door was open w/nobody home.
It's not malicious ... just like a curious neighborhood watch.
Okay - a little malicious. We do call each other when our one a$$hole neighbor is trying to back his boat into his garage.

C'mon - this is the guy who speeds down the street (nearly took out a kid in the cul-de-sac one night) and when I asked him to slow down he told me he'd checked with the city and those little "power cars" aren't street legal. We only have sidewalks on one side of the street, and the kids ride their "cars" - SUPERVISED - in the cul-de-sac. We also have a deaf child on our street, and a DEAF CHILD AT PLAY sign ... and he tears down here going at least 40.
Power wheels aren't street legal?/ No way! I was planning to send Jacob to Target in the Batmobile.
