LOS ANGELES - A literary agent for the family of stabbing victim Ronald Goldman has made a deal to repackage and publish O.J. Simpson’s canceled “If I Did It” book about the slayings of Goldman and Simpson’s ex-wife, a spokesman for the agent said Monday.

Details of the agreement, including the name of the New York publishing house, will be released Tuesday, said Michael Wright, a spokesman for Los Angeles-based literary agent Sharlene Martin of Martin Literary Management.

“The family and publisher have pledged to leave Simpson’s manuscript entirely intact, but they will also add key commentary,” Wright said in a prepared statement. “The Goldmans, the publisher and Sharlene Martin will all contribute portions of sales proceeds to the Ron Goldman Foundation for Justice.”

Wright declined further comment. Martin primarily represents self-help, nonfiction and memoir writers, including “You’ll Never Nanny in This Town Again” author Suzanne Hansen, according to her Web site.

The Simpson book, in which he reportedly explains how he might have committed the killings, was not released last year as originally planned because of public outrage.

Last month, a federal bankruptcy judge awarded rights to the book to Goldman’s family to help satisfy a $38 million wrongful death judgment against the former football star.

Simpson has maintained his innocence in the 1994 killings of his ex-wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and her friend Goldman. Simpson, who now lives near Miami, was acquitted of murder in 1995.

I don't think the debate here is whether or not OJ is guilty. I hope we all agree on that.

What do you think about the publishing of this book? Other than ewwwww. Is this possibly a good thing or just sick? Are the Goldman's capitalizing on their son's murder, almost collaborating with his killer.

    Ewwww.

I personally think (or maybe hope) the Goldman's are trying to expose OJ for what he is. What he did to their son is horrifying, and OJ is off playing golf. Guessing by the title and what the media's ideas were of the book, for what that's worth, it was going to do nothing more than make OJ look as guilty as he most likely is.

As long as the Goldman's get the money that OJ has hidden from them since this happened then fine, let them publish it. As long as OJ won't see a cent.

If anyone is interested (I realize that this may be of very limited interest...), but trivia: the U.S. Bankruptcy Judge presiding over this case is a really acclaimed and well-respected judge, Judge A. Jay Cristol. Terrific jurist. Kind of an interesting case to watch, from a bankruptcy law point-of-view. The debtor that filed for bankruptcy is a corporation owed by OJ Simpson's daughters (the company filed for bankruptcy last April). The book was property of the corporation.

(I assume that OJ Simpson places all assets he can in corporations and other protective entities, to shield them from being seized in satisfaction of the Goldman's judgment against him.)

For the most part, just the idea of this books skeeves me out. But, I might consider reading it, if only for the comments by the Goldman family. That alone would might be the only redeeming aspect of this project.
