Trust me on this my peers. Get your relatives and friends to pull out the "classic" edition of trivial pursuit over the holidays. Don't accept anything less. Don't give up without a fight. We are relevant! Chants "we're not 'gonna take it; no we aint gonna take it anymore".
Kevin ... have you been drinking? You're cracking me up!

I know one of the reporters here very well and he spoke to the female reporter in AZ that wrote the original story and she wouldn't give him any more information, at all. Would not elaborate on how or who told her, nothing. So yes, I think the story is a little iffy.

As for residents not getting to do much at Mayo, I can't speak to AZ but that is definitely not the case here. DH has been doing tons since day 1 in all rotations he has done.

At the very least, the story appears to be correct enough that the resident ended up losing his job. But there are definitely holes in the reporting or at the very least it has been sloppy.

Considering the hell that the whistleblower is likely to go through, if he or she is indeed medical personnel, and the amount of hype this story has received, the reporter will never give up that source, especially to another reporter in another town. Mayo is going to have to flood that one out on its own.

I think that is a legitimate question.

Throwing more thoery into the ring: It could have been a case of medical or present non-medical staff just having loose lips to the wrong person, as in maybe friends with or dating the reporter or even someone who knew the reporter. The name wouldn't even have to be mentioned. How many topless bar owners were in for gallbladder surgery? Nurse mentions laughingly after hours to his/her friend, the reporter, reporter digs a little, finds out the story is valid, now nurse goes back to warn resident, and resident calls patient. From that point it does seem like to avoid being in deep sh*t, the reporter would have been in contact with Hot Rod before printing the story. I use nurse just because - it could have been anyone. I wonder how many people were there in the OR? It seems like if the resident deleted the pic right away it should be easy for mayo to go through the lot who saw it. I'm curious as to how much effort they will put into finding the source of the story?

Dangit, I went to be right before page 12 really got rockin - I missed all this to watch White Christmas???

I think it wasn't the paitent. How would the patient, whom said he never had a procedure done, know that photos could be even taken in the OR? Not that many people even read those forms that they are given before a procedure. And a guy who had Hot Rod written, close enough for his nearsided eyes to see and remember that the member he was seeing was actually his member in a drunken stupor (theorizing here right ) is doubtable to read the fine print on pre op papers. And the idea a phone would be thrown out here by this guy as the device to use take the picture - just doesn't fly with me. And if it was the paitent, don't you think he'd remember like a "coming to Jesus" moment, when someone stuffed his member with a plastic cathedar?

Nope, don't buy it, this dude would remember who offended Hot Rod with an evil tube - with NO problem of positive identification

Hmm... I just don't think it matters if it was Hot Rod or not that called the reporter. So what if he did? Does that make it NOT bad all of a sudden?

Not necessarily, but it makes it not a HIPAA violation, at least.
