Obviously, they include some candidates that aren't running. Looks like I am voting for Hillary or Joseph Biden since my theoretical ideal candidate isn't running.

              Re: 2008 Candidate selector

I also have a problem with the fact that the poll is too black and white. For example, the Iraq war question...everyone forgets that at the time of the vote they weren't giving a sweeping "go to war" endorsement and the facts weren't all in. It was an "if there is no other choice, then...." Who knew Bush would twist all of the facts...

                Re: 2008 Candidate selector

Well of the candidates who are actually running right now I have these results in this order (filtered out those not running/no longer running):

                Alan Keyes (78%)
                Duncan Hunter (76%)
                Mitt Romney (74%)
                John McCain (65%)
                Mike Huckabee (62%)
                Fred Thompson (60%)
                Rudolph Guiliani (55%)
                Ron Paul (44%)
                Joseph Biden (32%)
                Hillary Clinton (30%)
                Bill Richardson (28%)
                John Edwards (23%)
                Mike Gravel (22%)
                Christopher Dodd (21%)
                Barack Obama (19%)
                Dennis Kucinich (9%)
                Elaine Brown (8%)

Fairly accurate given that I am rooting for Mitt Romney and have found Alan Keyes to be right on the money (although un-electable). I would support John McCain as a vice president. I haven't a clue as to who Duncan Hunter is....

My numbers belie an adherence to the overall belief system of either party. My number one candidate, Christopher Dodd (?) scored only 66% and my number two candidate, Ron Paul scored 65%. Everyone else posting here has a higher percentage for their number one.

                            Re: 2008 Candidate selector

Don't think I'll get a chance to vote for Kent. Of course, now I have to figure out who he is. I was excited about Newt but I knew he'd be DOA. Heck, I was interested in Mitt and he let me down in Iowa by falling to the Huckster. But the Huckster will get his in New Hampshire. For the record, I love to hear Alan Keyes speak, but I also could NEVER vote for him.

Interestingly enough, I caught C-SPAN, a few years ago when Keyes popped into the Illinois senate race for giggles at the last minute. Of course, he was debating Obama. I've got to tell you, Keyes (IMHO) was really owning Obama in the formal, rhetorical setup of the debate. Of course, I still think Keyes is touched but I was struck by how many points he was scoring (in my mind) to what I saw as a very flustered Obama.

And at the very bottom of my list - the odd couple - Kucinich and Edwards. I laugh at Denny and enjoy the entertainment factor he provides wherever he appears. And the only time I ever agreed with John Edwards was when he quipped in a dem debate that he liked Kucinich's wife better than he liked Denny. I hope she shows up whenever Denny does.

Full disclosure -- I am only drinking Chai Latte (decaf, homeade).

P.S. Whoever is in office, I still want absolute gridlock. I explained my rationale over dinner last night with DW. I was shocked she could actually (ever so slightly appreciate my reasoning). I think it helped that I called it divided government.
