You would have loved the discussion/debate I got to be a part of yesterday...all democrats...all women...and they wanted EDWARDS to win. I heard the most incredibly ridiculous statements about Hillary neglecting Chelsea from the "I worked from home, stayed at home" crowd.... I couldn't believe my ears.
Wow, we women sure have a long way to go.
Hate her for her policies. Don't vote for her because you don't believe in what she stands for....but not because she is a mom that didn't stay at home.

I don't know, Julia..I have met a couple of wives that have gotten into med school due to connections that they made through their physician spouses....the same goes for residency. A good friend of mine here is an FP that went to med school after her youngest was in elementary school and getting into the only med school here in the state was partially thanks to ....her dh.

Re: hehehe
Hillary Clinton repeatedly (in debates) refers to what "we" did when she refers to her husband's White House years. In fact, she blurs the lines and often attributes things that Bill Clinton did to her. Now, I have no doubt a first lady influences her husband. (Although, given the frostiness of their marriage I seriously doubt Hillary and Bill are very tight). However, is it even ethical let alone factually correct for her to refer to her husband's White House achievements as her own?
I DO have a problem with that. She may have a good grasp as to the Machievellian underpinnings that run D.C. but that doesn't necessarily translate into any sort of political 'experience'. Heck, I'm sure Nancy Reagan has as much experience as Hillary Clinton in that regard. And, I'm sure that someone like Laura Bush would be laughed out of the room by the very same people supporting Mrs. Clinton if she were to announce her presidential candidacy. Hillary Clinton won her senate seat based on her fame - period. She had no political record to speak of. Her business record was pockmarked with scandal. She hasn't led much of a professional life, actually, when one examines her husband's White House years.
My problem with Mrs. Clinton is not that she is a woman. It's not that she's married to the former president Clinton. It's that she's capitalizing on somebody else's achievements/record/actions/popularity to get to the White House.Who uses a machete to cut through red tape

Re: hehehe
It's sad that her husband is her liability...being married to a former president means she can't aspire to that greatness herself.....That's a fact of life I'm sure most of us here have come to terms with in our own lives on some level if we had any aspirations at all going into the medical lifestyle. No one questions a man's career motives or looks at his wife as that kind of a liability.....The support of obama feels weirdly cult-like because he is such an unknown quantity right now. My fear is that the media is blowing him up very big...and once he gets the nomination, they will drop him like a hot potato. No one is more happy about the Obama thing than the republicans that I know, which is really weird. really weird. My dad is thrilled.
I will support whatever democratic nominee gets the nod though...this year, I won't consider a vote for a republican out of principal.

I DO have a problem with that.
I compare it to my husband saying, "When we gave birth." Ummmm....Excuse me? YOU never gave birth!!!
That's the difference for me and why I never, ever say that!Who uses a machete to cut through red tape

Nope, that's not the case at all.
Now, if she actually had her OWN record to run on (instead of riding someone else's coattails) then she would be a viable candidate.
Her husband is a liability only because she is running on HIS record. If she were running on her OWN record then her OWN record would be her liability.Who uses a machete to cut through red tape

HC went Wesley College and earned a JD at YALE. She worked for a law firm and the children's defense fund all on her own merit...based on degrees she earned with her own brain.
She is a co-founder of Arkansas Advocates for Children and Families. Geesh, she even won Arkansas mom of the year in 1984
Her work on healthcare reform was her baby..but she worked on it together with her dh. There's nothing wrong with that. Plenty of med spouses work for their dh's or get into labs/schools etc through connections created by their spouses. At that point in her career though, she had her own experience with healthcare because of the projects she had worked on in Arkansas.
She has been a senator since 2000 and has served the State of New York for 8 years.
Love her or hate her, but she is as qualified as all of the other monkeys on the stage.~Mom of 5, married to an ID doc

Re: hehehe
When she got verklempt the other day it actually touched my heart. :P Goodness, that was weird as hell. Only HC could plan to "show emotion". It appeared so robotic, weird and eerily rehearsed. And nothing about what I think of her track record would let me have any doubt that the "cry" or near cry wasn't a ploy.
I do, however, think she's definitely smart but like Tara I don't like any of her policies.
And like TR, I say bring on Hillary as the nominee.

Re: hehehe
And, it seems like everytime we go through the horror that is a Democratic presidency (see Carter, Clinton) we have the voters come to their senses again.
Seriously, the populace is fickle. Always has been always will be. That's described as a GOOD thing in the Federalist papers (because it leads to relatively frequent change and it prevents the federal government from becoming a dictatorship).
Although....I wonder what our Founding Fathers would say about TWO family dynasties controlling the government for almost thirty years?Who uses a machete to cut through red tape
