I was in both Cinci and Dayton today. In the gritty party of Cinci where I live, about a tenth of the houses display Obama signs. When I went to my mom's suburban middle class neighborhood in Dayton, I only saw Clinton signs. :huh:

I'm just irritated that the whole thing is continuing. Yes, I prefer Obama - mainly b/c I feel he's more electable over McCain. But now I just want a decision that everyone can get behind to make sure a democrat takes the White House.

I swear - the voters in Ohio .... :waiting: 1st they go for Bush in 2000 / 2004, and now this .... .

Well, I'd like to see Clinton get the nomination. I don't, honestly, know who is more electable. I hope that everyone can come together in the end though and make sure that she or Obama end up in the White House.

Maybe I am truly naive. Afterall, I never thought Bush would win (ahem steal the election), let alone win the second time!

I think Clinton is winning the states that are important to winning the general election. California, Ohio, New York, Florida, etc. I mean, Utah, is never, ever going down for the dems anyway.

Heidi, I think that's the valid argument that she can take to the superdelegates as well. Florida's delegates won't *count* but she has the potential to turn Fl blue this year...

I'm just hoping that she can win if she does get the nom. Lots of folks I know that support Obama would vote McCain over Hillary. The vote for change: McCain = republican rebel/change from "old school" Obama = new kid in town/ change from business as usual D.C. Hillary = BTDT. That's my concern. :huh:

The sheer regionality of this has me baffled. Here, we had an article today about Republicans jumping parties and voting for Hillary in the primary in order to pick the most "beatable" opponent for the general election. That seems in direct conflict to what Kris reports is going on in Texas i.e. Rep for Obama. I'm shocked that Clinton won decisively. If she won in Cleveland then I'm out of touch entirely. It's been all Obama, all the time around here. No Clinton in sight.

The good news? Our staunchly Republican little town made the paper today because we had 70% of the voters at the primary vote *democratic*. The poll workers said that has NEVER happened in this town. See what I've done to the place?? :>

Hey! I did my part...I showed up and voted for Obama with 3 kids in tow during an ice storm!

I was really surprised by the outcome. The Obama signs and bumper stickers REALLY increased yesterday. The people across the street (who are directly beside the synagogue where we voted) filled their front bay window with homemade signs that say YES WE CAN. Still not much visible Hillary.

OK, I concede that the Ohio win was more than by a small margin...she ended up doing better there than I gave her credit for being able to accomplish.

OK...now I have to address the whole republicans crossing over for hillary thing. When there has been talk of the repubs crossing over for Obama (even though many won't vote for him in the GE) people seem to have this "hey, he can reach across party lines, it's good for the party, we love Obama" thing. If some cross over for Hillary for the same reason it is somehow negative.

What's good for the goose....is good for the gander.

No - I'm all for 'reaching across party lines'. If the goal (like w/your dad and his buddies) is to create the most "beatable" democratic opponent, then the general cosensus has been that Clinton is perceived as easier for McCain to beat than Obama. If a republican wants to vote democrat b/c they're fed up w/their own party, then they can pick whomever they'd prefer to see in the White House w/my blessing.

And this?? On one hand we complain about the unfair treatment of HRC due to her gender -- but I can't imagine anyone ever writing that Obama looked "dashing" or McCain looked "handsome" during a win. We still perpetuate the gender issues too! :P

Kris, the Republican crossover I referenced was negative on both counts. Your dad isn't a "real" Obama supporter, is he? The article here referenced the same behavior in Hillary votes in Ohio (organized Republican groups registering and voting for Hillary as a political tactic aimed at the general election- not as a support). They interviewed voters. I thought you said the Rep Obama vote in Texas was not genuine and was similar. (At least some of it - I'm sure there are Rep that will vote Democratic legitimately as well.) I'm just intrigued at all the shenanigans and how it seems to differ based on the region, county and state. On all sides. Interesting.

At least from what I've seen, the crossover voters in Texas were voting for two reasons:

1) they voted for Obama because they genuinely think he's the right guy for the job (i.e. my neighbor Curtis who was freaking out about the "Democrat" stamp on his registration card during the caucus last night)

2) They voted for Hillary because they hate her and want her to get the nomination so McCain can 'take her down'. (that would be a quote from my husband's boss).

I don't know of ANY Republicans who voted for Hillary because they genuinely love her and want her to win.

and it looks like Obama is going to take the caucuses. and let me tell you what a CF THAT entire process was. In our precinct, we split the 12 delegates who are elected to go to the City Convention. Obama took it 51% to 49% so we each got 6 delegates. and it didn't even get started until 10pm because we had to wait until the last voter had voted in the primary and the poor woman didn't finish until 9:45. Why so long? ONE COMPUTER to check registrations. Sure we had six voting booths but they were being used ONE AT A TIME because the 3 ancient old ladies were taking at least 2-3 minutes PER PERSON to verify that they were registered and at the correct voting place. Needless to say, those of us who were ready to caucus at 7:15 had a bit of a wait. Finally, at 9pm, my neighbors f doors down went home to change from their work clothes and brought back diet cokes and some pretzels. The Precinct reps ordered pizzas for everyone.

The other fun thing was the volunteer precinct chair attempted to get it all started at 7:15 when people were still voting. The rules say specifically that you can't even sign people in until every person who has voted in the primary has a chance to come to caucus. So, the Obama chair and the Hillary chair said absolutely not. So then people started saying that there were lots of elderly people and people with little kids who needed to go home so the Chair declared a "state of emergency" according to Robert's rules and 8 people signed the paperwork and then left. The rest of us said, No way, pal. Our votes are NOT going to get tossed by the DNC because you decided you wanted to go home and watch TV.

So, finally, after the poor woman who was the last person to vote came in, we let her go first in line to sign in. The Chair kept the 8 signatures out of the count and was going to send it to the County Democratic Committee and go from there. and some Hillary people called the news so suddenly there was an Express-News reporter and one of the TV stations. It was hilarious.

The one thing that the Obama people and the Clinton people all agreed on was that the two-step process works very well on paper but not so much in reality. We all agreed to have a petition attached to our voting results asking the Texas Democratic committee to consider re-writing the rules to only have a primary. Shit, when we were leaving we got a call from another friend of ours who had just signed in to his caucus- at midnight.

So, if you're wondering why the caucus results aren't in, it's because across the city, people weren't even starting their caucuses until 11 pm.

But, I TRULY participated in the process and I'm very glad to have done so.

Had nothing to do with gender. After the last debate I mentioned how great he looked at a diff. forum....because he seemed to glow....nothing gender anything about it....
