Re: Do you enjoy talking politics?

Well, OK, then: I will admit that there are plenty of conservatives like that as well!

Like I said: Not. My. Normal. Personality.

Re: Do you enjoy talking politics?

Grew up in DC, where politics and the Redskins are the topics of choice. Of course, C-span (1, 2 and 3) are actually topics of conversation starters, too. (as in, hey, I was watching C-Span yesterday...)

I love everything about the political world. Tonight I'm making some popcorn, pouring some vino and tucking in with the dogs on the couch.

Jenn (TR) I couldn't resist!!!!!!! It was just too easy. I too would assume that I was talking about a conservative since we all know where I stand politically.

I'll only come down hard and fast on something with those very close to me. I suppose they have to like me even if there are holes in my argument.

I don't mind thought provoking and respectful discussions, but I don't care to debate politics. When people get hell fired up, I'm kind of .

Did you grow up in DC proper or in the metro area. I grew up in NOVA and we were doing presidential debates in like 4th grade and in high school we staged a walk-out for a reason that escapes me at the moment. Politics is like a staple for me and I am even a volunteer lobbyist. Of course I cannot stand to debate with people who get personal and refuse to be objective. Moving down south for college, people were so threatened if you had an intelligent opinion. But when I moved back to up here to go to UVA, I was at home in a place where or founder Mr. Jefferson stated "We are not afraid to follow truth wherever it may lead, nor to tolerate any error so long as reason is left free to combat it." Of course I am disgusted by Jefferson's slave ownership, but I do feel gratitude that his better ideas allowed me the freedom to grow as a scholar.

I was born in Silver Spring and I grew up in MD (Gaithersburg) and as soon as I could, I moved into the city and have never looked back.
Total, I've lived in: College Park, Bowie, Greenbelt, Alexandria (VA), Montgomery Village, and Laurel.

I think kids in the DC area are much more politically aware because it's what their parents and their parent's friends DO. I remember the impact of the RIFS of the 1970s. I had lots of friends parent's lose jobs. Sucked.

Re: Do you enjoy talking politics?

I actually work in Silver Spring. I bet it's totally different than when you grew up, because its totally different from when I got married 10 years ago. They have the best ethnic restaurants. I can't recall my parents being in to politics much, definitely not my mom, but my dad worked for Jesse Jackson so I was exposed alot to it, even though my dad didn't talk about it.

Not to highjack, but I learned that Virginia is Virgina and Maryland and Maryland and never the twain shall meet.lol.

The funny thing is that I got more excited one day when I realized that I would only be 20 minutes from Shaq when the Miami Heat played the Wizards, until I realized I have lived 20 minutes from the leader of the free world my whole life. I think I've lost awe about the whole political process and the government. Although when I started lobbying I was sincerely struck by the architecture in those federal buildings amazing. Eventually I will have to end my 30 years of procrastination and actually go into the White House and Capitol Building or Supreme Court. When you live so close, the idea of standing in line for hours doesn't appeal to you.
