Similar to a remark made by a young George Washington during his service during the French and Indian War. He said something to the effect of being enamoured of the sound of the bullets in the air.

I think the point is more that he's lying through his teeth. When he WAS younger and not employed as president, he had less than zero interest in doing what he claims to be envious of now.

No JOKE. He used his connections to get OUT of having to serve overseas as a soldier.

If he's so envious, I suggest that come January, he offer up his services and head on over there to help out. I demand it.

Um, they get up every day, do their jobs, and hope that they're not killed doing it.

Not exactly romantic.

and yes, some of them do believe that what they're doing is helping and they are excited about it. But even then, it's them doing their jobs in as a professional manner as possible.

Sure, Rick was glad that he was able to provide quality healthcare to the detainees. and he developed good relationships with his translators. and he supported the local businesses (caterers, mostly) whenever he could.

That doesn't mean he has any great desire to go back.

I'll agree that there is nothing romantic about it - at all.

We've now had the 'pleasure' of knowing a few guys who have had their marriages ruined because of prolonged deployments. To confuse all of my metaphors: It's kind of a romance "killer" to go off to war.

Anyway - war - not romantic (except to eleven year old boys such as my son who checks out about 20 books on historic battles, famous generals, weapons, etc. every week at the library).
