    The New Yorker

    Has anyone else seen the new cover for the July 21 edition?

    Holy....COW. Maybe I'm being too...sensitive, but I think that this level of satire is wrong on so many levels and that it reinforces the completely wrong stereotypes that have been put out there about the Obama family.

    I'm shaking my head in disbelief.

    Wow, I can't imagine the Obama's are happy about that.

      UPDATE -- Obama campaign spokesman Bill Burton says: “The New Yorker may think, as one of their staff explained to us, that their cover is a satirical lampoon of the caricature Senator Obama's right-wing critics have tried to create. But most readers will see it as tasteless and offensive. And we agree."

      I gotta say ... there would have to be some really, really convincing content for me to be able to look past that cover. That's pretty insane.

        I'm not sure what context there's supposed to be; it's a magazine cover, which should stand alone, right?

        I'm astonished at the poor taste, myself.

            I disagree, often the cover has another side to it (literally) and to me a cover of any magazine is just the summary of the issue. What I got from this particular one is that the current issue will have a number of Obama related articles that will most likely address various points of view and discuss how the media perceived and portrayed the couple.

            New Yorker is generally a very liberal and left leaning magazine, so for them this cover is pretty satirical. I think this is the context that most people are missing when they look at it.

              According to the Today show this AM the story in the magazine about Obama is a very nice article but both Obama and McCain are condemning the cover.

                New Yorker is generally a very liberal and left leaning magazine, so for them this cover is pretty satirical. I think this is the context that most people are missing when they look at it.
