Since the Veep possibilities abound and EVERYONE else is discussing them-

What say you, oh sage iMSNers.

McCain: I've got to say, this one has me stumped. I really don't see him giving it to Romney- although Romney could definitely help him in some of his weaker areas. and, let's face it, he needs someone young but not 'as' young as Obama.

Obama: Bayh (I've said it for months...) There's no way he'll pick Hillary- she's bucking for a Supreme spot and he therefore cannot chose another female for fear of alienating the Hillary supporters.

Another contender for Obama is Kaine, which a LOT of right-to-lifers will consider a positive move, especially since Kaine has been quite open about his religious beliefs. He's also been a great negotiator between parties. and he's got the management props.

    ok- let 'er rip!

    Re: Veepstakes

I honestly have no idea who either one will pick there have been so many names thrown around yet none really seem to jump out. I heard Edwards thrown out as a strong possibility for Obama the other day even though I think he's said he won't take it. I don't think Obama will pick Clinton either.

I wish they'd decide though, it has to be soon since the democratic convention is just over a month away.

When McCain had several people to his ranch a few weeks ago he was asked why there weren't any women candidates there and he said in fact there was a woman there, Meg Whitman, former CEO of eBay. However he reiterated that none of the people there were candidates for the veep spot. Meg's DH is a neurosurgeon at Stanford and someone my DH knows well so he thought that was pretty funny that they were there. DH would have to reconsider his vote then or if Edwards was Obama's veep.

I wish they would hurry and decide too. I'm curious!

And HRC on the Supreme Court? Seriously? I don't know the history well enough at all but would that be a really big shift? The justices seem so much more private than politicians. I can't see that working for her. Cabinet position? But that would be hard to swallow working for the person in the job you wanted.

      Bill Richardson for Obama?

I've been wondering about AZ governor Janet Napolitano as Obama's VP. It would wreck havoc with AZ going to McCain and she's got a great history of being tough, yet working well with both Republicans and Democrats. She's also been voted one of the top 5 governors in the US by Time Magazine.

I wouldn't mind seeing her run for president at some point, either.

Since moving here to AZ, I have been very impressed w/Gov Napolitano.
I too have heard her name bandied about and I think it could be a good match.

Do we really think this country is ready for a black president AND a female VP, Clinton or not?

            Just throwing it out there...

I also think that Napolitano is one of the few VP running mates that wouldn't cause the Clintonites to have a collect cow. I seriously doubt Clinton will either be tapped for VP or would accept the position if asked.

I know he won't...I know he really can't...but I wouldn't mind seeing McCain choose Lieberman. There is a lot about Lieberman I don't agree with, but I like his foreign policy, which is what I will vote on.

I mean, granted, Lieberman's not a Republican or a conservative in most ways, but then I figure...neither is McCain!! At least the ticket will match.

Obama should pick Richardson. Or Colin Powell, if he could get Powell to run.

I should clarify, I think a lot of the country would be ready for a black president and a female veep, but Obama's "issues" seem to be with foreign policy and those who say he's not experienced enough. It seems to me that those issues would be big with the older voters who also seem to be the ones that would have issues with a black president and female veep.

There are several females that have been thrown out there for him, one being Sebelius, the democratic governor of Kansas which is a very republican state.

I also don't know that Lieberman would be a good choice for McCain since the commander in chief position seems to be where McCain scores the highest, he needs someone who can boost his other areas I think.

I also would like to see Lieberman with McCain but agree it is unlikely to happen.

re: Cheri's point, sort of along those lines...before the primaries were over, I was surprised by the number of people who thought HRC was the better choice because people wouldn't follow through with voting for a black president. I figured that if they had that racial bias, wouldn't they be likely to have a gender bias as well?

While I actually like McCain, I'm not sure if Romney is a good choice for him. I think most people can accept an African-American or female president (or VP), but I'm not sure how many people will see beyond the misconceptions or prejudices against Mormonism. While it's no longer acceptable to be racist or sexist, prejudging someone else's religion seems to be not only common, but too well accepted.

It would be a liability, when it comes to Middle East Foreign Policy/ Peace Process to tap a Veep that is a staunch Zionist. The issue of Israel and Palestine needs as many neutral players as it can get. I hope & pray the next administration will be able to make serious inroads in the peace process.

BTW the Lieberman choice could even be considered Rovesque. It would be the kind of choice that could guarantee the conservative, Christian Zionist, Hagee loving right .
