  • SNORE.........

I am placing this in Debates only because it is about politics, not because I think there is any real genuine debate here, but:

Is anyone else having a hard time maintaining consciousness listening to the speeches tonight?

Tom Ridge is a fine man and I am sure Cindy McCain is a good-hearted, sincere person, but GOOD GRIEF.

This is like a really dull, overly sentimental Hallmark Card.

I am considering switching to "Gray's Anatomy." And I hate that show.

Amen. At least Palin was a more interesting speaker ...

I'm trying to listen to McCain, but hey - I'm 8 months pregnant and coming down with a cold. I won't need my sleepy-tea tonight. I've got John McCain.

He's not at all interesting tonight, is he? DH and I met him when he was running in '00 and he was such a nice guy. (We had a college friend on his staff.) He just seems so jaded this time around, so very sad that he didn't beat Bush in '00.

Did you guys see the couple of women rush toward him and get escorted away? That was the most exciting part of the speech, I think. Why am I awake for this, and I fell asleep for Sarah Palin's speech? Thank goodness for my laptop and all of you to keep me entertained.

I'm not watching so I can't comment on how he is tonight but I thought the same earlier today -- I really wish he beat Bush in 2000.

It sounds like I am missing out with the security issues and signs. Given the choice between the re-run of The Daily Show and Colbert, weighed with these reviews...easy choice. Calling about DVR is on my list, Tara!

I tried to stay interested, but he is not an inspiring person to listen to. I listened to the show w/Neil Conan on NPR after the speech and they talked about how it was the best speech McCain has given. So... I"m actually gonna go back and read it cause... I kinda missed parts doing laundry and mentally checking out.

The members of the band sent a C&D letter to the RNC, but they're probably just legally posturing and are out of luck. Heart doesn't own the rights to the song. It's licensed for public performance. The RNC probably paid a fee to the convention center.

These things always make the news, though. Earlier in the campaign, John Mellencamp went after them for using his songs. It was in the news for weeks. McCain agreed to stop because Mellencamp made such a stink about being left of center and that his songs "Pink Houses" and "My Country" used in McCain rallies presented Democratic populist ideals - not Republican views.

I'm sure that if Fleetwood Mac wanted to make a stink about the Clinton's use of "Don't Stop (Thinking About Tomorrow)" they could have made the news as well. I agree that it must smart to have your creative work used by a party that you dislike. Imagine having a song you wrote used as the rallying cry of the Democrats!
