    Re: SNORE.........

I think it's pretty funny. I mean, if you know anything about the 2 women that lead Heart, you'd have had to have seen this coming.

    http://hollywoodinsider.ew.com/2008/09/ ... ponds.html

"Sarah Palin's views and values in NO WAY represent us as American women. We ask that our song 'Barracuda' no longer be used to promote her image. The song 'Barracuda' was written in the late 70s as a scathing rant against the soulless, corporate nature of the music business, particularly for women. (The 'barracuda' represented the business.) While Heart did not and would not authorize the use of their song at the RNC, there's irony in Republican strategists' choice to make use of it there."

That's the thing - they can ask but they don't have to. Of course they will b/c they won't want it to become an issue but like Abigail said the arena pays a licensing fee to use licensed songs and I'm sure theirs are licensed. I had to keep track of crap like that when I worked at the mall, it was very annoying and I could use any song I wanted for any purpose as long as I paid the fee.

What does it say about them if they have been asked more than once to not use their song? Yeah, this is the second time...

The 2nd time on this song or the 2nd time on all songs they've used? I don't know after some of the fact checks on these speeches I don't think they have very smart staff.

I think it's the 2nd time Heart has said they don't want it used. I totally get that it's legal but SOMEONE had to realize (especially after the Mellencamp thing earlier this year) that Heart would make a stink out of it and it would end up in the news. Why press it??

I can't find it online, but I heard (on tv) that it's the second time Heart told them they didn't want it used.

                Re: SNORE.........

                The whole thing is silly.

To Heart: If you want to retain use of your work, don't transfer your rights. You just look like sore...winners (since you make money off this).

To McCain: Ok, it was a clever use of the song. Now, pick a different song. This isn't worth your time or attention. Ted Nugent is a Republican, I believe--maybe you could pick something from him? And there are probably a billion country music stars that would be happy to lend their songs to you. But please use some common sense...don't pick "I Like Women Just a Little on the Trashy Side." For example, it was weird when the HRC video tribute started out with a song by The Kinks. Was is really wise to associate any Clinton with any reference to "kink"?

Absolutely. Why on earth would you give your opponent's supporters something to whine about? The Mellencamp things was especially weird. He has stumped for Obama. Either McCain's people missed this (don't know how...) or they just did it to rub it in.

Mellencamp was in Edwards camp. I'm sure he's in Obama's now, but at the time of this debate he was still pulling for Edwards.

Ah, I've only seen him post-Edwards. Sorry about that.

But, either way: McCain should have put the math together--he's not on YOUR side... He's stumping for the other team!

                      Why deal with the headache?
