  • Actual text of Paulson and Dodd Proposals

For those interested - here is the actual text of the proposed Paulson plan. My guess was way off. This is nothing like the Patriot Act of multiple hundred pages. This is about three pages long and my personal favorite part of this is Section 8:
    Sec. 8. Review.
Decisions by the Secretary pursuant to the authority of this Act are non-reviewable and committed to agency discretion, and may not be reviewed by any court of law or any administrative agency.
    [emphasis added]

There is about as much danger in passing an act too long for anyone to read in time to know what is in it {Patriot} as one that is so brief that it covers no specifics and is not subject to review. What happened to checks and balances?

I have not had the time to read the Dodd proposal. A summary is here the actual text is here.

    [un]happy reading everyone!!

The bigger problem with that Section 8 is that come 1/20/09 Paulson will be gone. He will be leaving office with Bush and has already said so. So this leaves a blank check for who the hell knows who.
