  • Happy VP debate everyone...

I'm hosting a little vp debate party tonight. The beer is cold...and my friend is on her way over. We're ready to roll! I can't wait to hear everyone's thoughts here about how the debates went.

I think there are lots of parties tonight - so far its as expected, Palin is staying on task so far. Promoting McCain and keeping her foot out of her mouth...so far.

Biden has had some serious Botox in his forehead. When he raises his eyebrows, there are zero wrinkles in the center but lots on the sides.

I'm multi-tasking- listening, reading and watching. Palin's accent makes me nuts so I'm going to just go the live feeds instead.

PS- we had the normal first Thursday cocktail party on the street and since our host didn't put it on, half of us bailed.

Well, I didn't feel like she answered most of the questions but I do think she held her own and showed that she could keep up with Biden.

Why are all the analysts saying she did well? I don't get it.

              Because she did!
She did a good job defending McCain, I'll give her that but when Gwen specifically asked her what "she" thought about something she didn't ever answer those questions. I don't feel like I know anything more about her then when we started, I know they say people don't vote for the VP but if there is a chance she'd be a heartbeat away from the presidency I would like to know a little more about her and her thoughts. At least with Biden we have his voting record to go back on.

I turned it off after the first half-hour, partly because I was tired and wanted to go to bed but partly because listening to her talk was driving me insane. I also didn't really feel like I learned anything in the part that I watched.

Oh I feel Biden would be a heartbeat away as well but I feel like we know him. We have his voting record to go off of. When asked what he personally would do, he answered the questions. I'm not an Obama or a McCain supporter at this point, I don't know who I'm going to vote for.

                        Yes, Obama did quit smoking.

NUCULEAR...emphasis on the extra U...Oh my gosh. We were with a group of friends watching and even our republican friends were slightly embarrassed.

Did anyone watch it on CNN with their Analyst scoring? Rollins was obsessed with her.
I wish she answered some of the questions a little more directly. I don't think Biden started off that strong at least he answered the questions directly.

I did, too. If you want to prove that you're going to be different than Bush, the first step is to banish nuculer from your vocab.

I only caught about 30 minutes of the debate and, from what I saw, she seemed to dance around the questions. I can't wait to finish watching it tonight once the kids are in bed.

The grooming worked pretty well. She's still mutton dressed as lamb when it comes to actually answering anything substantively, but she memorized the words in the right order this time. I suppose that counts for something. I didn't catch any actual answers from her though. She talked around the questions but never actually answered them.

The folksy shit wore thin very quickly with me. And while Biden isn't my fave guy on the block, I seriously respect him. I don't have that respect for her. I find her intensely slimy and I think she actually tipped her hand when talking about the "flexibility" on the role of the Veep. Uh, what? It sounds like she wants to create co-presidents. Which if elected shouldn't take too long - I'm sure the Bush administration already worked a draft of that Exec Order.

                            I agree.

I heard during the post debate analysis (either CNN or MSNBC -- I was flipping) that regardless of what side of the fence you reside in, this evening only reinforced your thoughts.

From what I've heard and read so far, I would agree with this. I think the individuals who like the McCain/Palin ticket were extremely pleased with her performance, the people who will cast their votes for the Obama/Biden ticket were further horrified with her.

For the people who currently consider themselves "undecided" -- I'd be interested in hearing what they thought.

I only caught about 30 minutes, too, but I have it on TiVo, so hopefully I can catch up. I cringed whenever she said nuculer, too. It reminds me of little kids saying "liberry" instead of "library". If you want to be seen as knowledgeable on a subject, you really need to know how to pronounce it.

I think overall she did pretty well. Much better than the Katie Couric interviews at least. Biden seemed a lot more professional, but I think after this she'll appeal even more to the demographic she was chosen to appeal to.

I cracked up when she called him "Obiden". He looked like he was about to giggle!
