I watched it and I cried, big surprise. DH and I were at the hospital, they had two huge plasma TVs up next to the cafeteria. They were up and on all day and evening. Reverend Lowery's Benediction was very emotional for me. I can only imagine what he must have been feeling.

is that it is a smooth transition from one elected leader to the next.
Well you home schooling maven you you actually missed an excellent opportunity to study what precisely needs to happen for the pres elect to become The President!! As it turns out my suspicions were correct, it actually wasn't a smooth transition. SCJ Roberts flubbed his lines, thus according to the Constitution OBama needed to recite it again. You see it is the only oath that is in Quotes in the constitution, therefore it technically needed to be spoken exactly as it is written. Many said that he automatically became president 3 mins earlier...but it also clearly states that this exact oath must be spoken. I wonder if it meant that until he re-did the oath, that Joe Biden was technically the president? Such fun historical trivia this will provide

They discussed it on Talk of The Nation today on NPR.

        Obama Retakes Oath Of Office

by Nina Totenberg and Robert Siegel

All Things Considered, January 21, 2009 ยท President Barack Obama has retaken the oath office after his swearing-in ceremony Tuesday didn't go as smoothly as planned. Chief Justice John Roberts administered the oath to the president in front of reporters. On Tuesday, Roberts flubbed his lines while leading Obama in the 35-word oath.

Jenn, I would think this would have been important - isn't civics part of a rounded education? Inaugurations are due process and centuries old, and not a part of the experience in any other country. That in itself, to me (along with seeing Lincoln's own bible), is always worth a few minutes of my time once every four years.
So much word. My kids' schools gathered all the students to watch it on TV and incorporated it into their lesson plans. Since this is our first school year here in our new city, I don't know if this is a regular part of the curriculum (to have their governmental/civics units coinciding with this time of year) or if it was a special occasion, but it was great learning opportunity nonetheless.

Didn't watch it, didn't care to. Was in Florida buying a condo so that we will have some extra income once "the man" raises our taxes.
